After a rough 2019 launch, Fallout 76 has enjoyed a series of improvements and updates that have slowly, but steadily, managed to turn it into an appealing MMO roleplaying experience in the post-apocalyptic wastelands. With a small but dedicated player base continuing to enjoy what's on offer, fans wonder what's in store for the future, as we enter 2025.

In fact, the studio has already hinted at what new features and additions will arrive in Fallout 76 throughout the year. This article provides all the details for your convenience. Read on!

The development team shared an extensive blog last month in December 2024, thanking players for their support, sharing milestones, and pondering on the future of the expansive MMORPG. While the list of what's on the menu on the horizon is not extensive, here's what to expect throughout each quarter of the year:

  • Q1 2025: Ghoul Update
  • Q2 2025: The Big Bloom (Seasonal Event)
  • Q3 2025: Fishing
  • Q4 2025: Mischief Night

To kick off, players will be able to turn into Ghouls in March 2025 with a new character build addition, thanks to new Perk Cards, abilities, and more. These will offer a brand-new way of approaching the open world of the Appalachia in Fallout 76.

The Ghoul build will replace standard hunger and other survival elements with the Feral meter. Furthermore, bonuses will be gained based on radiation gathered, also called Glow.

That said, while there are benefits, there are heavy disadvantages too, as certain Factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, will not interact with a Ghoul player. There will be speed and encumbrance reduction. Moreover, while players can return to their human form if they do not like the Ghoul build, it will not be possible to revert to the mutant form again.

The Seasonal Event "The Big Bloom" will go live in Spring 2025. Players will have to complete a series of challenges to obtain neat rewards. This includes collecting items, beating quests, and defeating key foes to obtain event-themed goodies. Whether solo or as a team, fans can look forward to it.

Summer 2025 will mark the season of fishing in Fallout 76. Players will be able to obtain a fishing rod and other supplies, like bait, from a new merchant. With all equipment in tow, players will be able to catch all manners of radioactive and mutated aquatic fauna come summer.

Mischief Night returns later in 2025, likely around October, to celebrate the Halloween season. It has not made an appearance since 2019's Nuclear Winter update, so fans can look forward to a period of completing spook-themed missions and similar rewards.
