The flashy, stylish Viper job is now in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. If you’ve got early access to the expansion, you can unlock this job right away provided you meet the proper prerequisites. This melee DPS job is reminiscent of a few Square Enix characters; in particular, Final Fantasy 9’s Zidane Tribal, and Chrono Cross’s Serge and Lynx. Wielding a pair of swords, they can bring these two blades together for devastating attacks.

We previously took a look at the Viper job during the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Media Tour, and it was a blast to play. Relatively easy to start, it gives players a wide assortment of combos to use, whether against a group of foes or just one target. It’s not something that’s going to disappoint fans of melee DPS.

Where to unlock the Viper job in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail

Once you’ve gotten past the intense login servers for Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail’s Early Access, begin playing Viper right away; that is after you complete a short quest and have at least one character at Level 80 of any combat class. Once you’re on a Level 80 combat class, head over to Ul’dah.

The NPC, Worried Weaver is just north of the Aetherite Crystal, at coordinates 8.1, 9.3. You will see a crowd of people near the Immortal Flames Headquarters, that’s how to tell you’re in the right spot. Speak with them, and you’ll unlock the job quest Enter the Viper.

Your next step is to head over to the Weaver’s Guild and speak to the So-called Viper. You’ll overhear an NPC trying to get work defeating fiends for the Weaver Guild, but it’s just not something they’re really in the market for. It’s a pretty entertaining conversation, so we recommend not skipping it.

It turns out a fiend needs to be bested, and the player character is asked to tag along to help the Viper in this Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail quest. Teleport to Camp Drybone and meet this Viper to push the quest forward. Players will then see the NPC rush forward, glow a brilliant blue, and demolish the three-headed serpent.

The Viper can tell the player is interested in learning what he did to slay the best, and after a brief conversation, he offers up the Soul of the Viper job crystal. You will get teleported back to Ul’dah, so teleport back to the Weaver’s Guild and wrap this up.

This grants you a set of 515 item level equipment, though if you took the time to prepare for the expansion, you may already have a full set of 530 gear. You’ll also get your Viper blades, and the unlock of this cool, new class.
