How to change characters in The First Descendant

With over a dozen different characters in The First Descendant to pick from, players will likely want to try out as many Descendants as they get their hands on and see which one fits their playstyle. Logically, this would require switching to another of the varied playable characters that are available and can be unlocked in the roster.

Those starting their journey will likely want to know right away how to switch heroes - especially after they acquire their very first Descendant after progressing through the story with one of the three starter characters in The First Descendant. After picking between Ajax, Viessa, and Lapex, the first Descendant players will unlock will likely be Bunny - the nimble hero who specializes in dealing with Electric damage. This is via standard story progression, and with the hero unlocked at the Magister Anais, players are free to start using her - or any other hero they have purchased.

If players do find that a hero is not for them and wish to revert to another Descendant, the process to do so is very simple. Here's how to switch characters in The First Descendant:

1. Open the Inventory tab (I on PC, Options on PlayStation and Xbox) and navigate to the Descendants section. This will show the current Descendant in use
2. Here, bring up the Descendants List (using G on PC or R3 on PlayStation and Xbox which shows all available heroes in the game, both locked and unlocked ones
3. Select the other Descendant to switch to and click on the Use button

With that done, players can exit the Inventory screen and use the new Descendant. There is one caveat to consider, however: players cannot switch characters while out on the field or during missions; instead, this can only be done while in the hub area of Albion or at Outposts in the various areas of the world map.
