Clearing Vulgus Outposts in The First Descendant is among the varied activities you can take part in in the world of Ingris. It is one of the many ways for you to challenge the invading alien threat and grab powerful loot after defeating them. However, understanding how an outpost operates and other aspects surrounding it can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers.
As such, this guide will help you clear the Vulgus Outposts in The First Descendant.
What are Vulgus Outposts in The First Descendant and how to clear them?
The Vulgus is the main antagonistic force in Nexon's latest sci-fi looter shooter, and it has outposts dotted around the game's various biomes. You can tackle these foes solo or with other players — this includes random people in the same Public session in The First Descendant.
Once you enter a Vulgus Outpost in The First Descendant, waves of enemies will begin to spawn. You must defeat them while also contending with the Vulgus generators, which must be attacked and destroyed. Once all generators are destroyed, a boss enemy will spawn in the area alongside several minions.
At this point, solo players will likely be overwhelmed. As such, unless you are playing defensively using a grappling hook, it is best to have at least one more person tag along, especially if the Vulgus Outpost you want to clear is in a higher-level area. Depending on the biome, it may even have additional hazards present, like the toxic waste littered around the one in the Sterile Land.

Beating an outpost's boss enemy means you've officially cleared it. After that, you can pick up the rewards dropped by the foes. These often include weapons, Phase Reactor gear, Amorphous Material, and more. It is not a one-time deal, however, as the Outposts will be periodically reset, allowing you to farm them again after a while.
Additionally, Vulgus Outposts in The First Descendant also have Surveillance Towers around them. These do not show up on the map, so you must physically track them down and disable them. This will increase the amount of time you get to infiltrate an outpost and shut down the operation, which involves a timer.
You will also need to be within the Outpost area to clear it, as staying out will result in mission failure.
The First Descendant is on the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S as a free-to-play game.
