Excavator-9 mechanics explained
Excavator-9 has a variety of close-range and AoE attacks, and understanding its mechanics is key if you want to survive its onslaught. The boss uses a mix of melee and mid-range attacks, solo targeting the tank of the team who is drawing aggro.
The boss features a three-hit combo that includes a powerful slam, a ground stamp, and an AoE punch. This combo can deal significant damage, so players need to dodge or jump at the right time to avoid being one-shot.
One of Excavator-9's more dangerous mid-range attacks is telegraphed by a dialogue box saying, "Wide-range operation!" It’s a signal for the Fury Attack. This attack involves the boss spinning three times, dealing massive AoE damage. Players must dodge the first two spins and aim to block the third spin for a perfect defense.
Additionally, Excavator-9 can gather purple particles in its left hand, signaling another mid-range AoE slam attack. Jumping just before the slam will help avoid taking heavy damage. Another key mechanic to watch for is the Black Smoke Attack, which follows after the boss creates a fissure in the ground that launches players into the air.
The AoE black smoke can petrify players, turning them into stone if hit. To avoid it, they need to morph into their flying form to avoid fall damage and steer clear of the black smoke.
