If you want to make progress in The First Descendant's late-game, farming a lot of Macromolecule Biogel is a must. This spongy rare substance is a core ingredient for crafting several pieces of equipment, and more importantly, Crystallization Catalysts. Making just one Catalyst requires 22 units of this resource and the current modding demands will have you popping anything from five to eight Catalysts per equipment.
Thankfully, there's a fast and efficient way to farm Macromolecule Biogel in The First Descendant, and this guide will break down the procedure in detail.
The best Macromolecule Biogel farm in The First Descendant
The fastest way to farm Macromolecule Biogel in The First Descendant is by defeating Vulgus Outposts bosses in Echo Swamps. You want to clear the Vulgus Outposts specifically in Muskeg Swamp and Derelic Covert, as the bosses (Elite enemy with a yellow Health bar) are guaranteed to drop the resource upon death.
You also want to do this in the Hard Mode and at level 100, making the Outpost Elite drop 14-20 Macromolecule Biogels each run. This way, just two simple runs will give you enough to craft one Crystallization Catalyst.
If you have installed the game on an SSD and load times are low, you can try to farm both outposts efficiently. Clear out the Vulgus Outpost in Derelict Covert and exit through the gates to the west to Muskeg Swamp. Then, clear out the Outpost there, and run back to Derelict Covert to repeat the process.
If you find this twin-outpost rotation to be too much of a hassle, farming one of them is good enough. The biggest time-saver is having a high-DPS assault rifle like Eternal Willpower to quickly destroy the access points, summon the Elite enemy, and take him down to collect the loot.
Farming only one Outpost will net you anything from 500 to 600 Macromolecule Biogels after an hour. In our testing, running between the two outposts in Muskeg Swamp and Derelict Covert was only marginally better due to the travel time in between. Doing the two outposts may be the better option if you just need enough of this resource to make a Catalyst, and then call it a day.
