Bungie's MMO game, Destiny 2, has recently been in the headlines thanks to its final expansion release from the Light and Darkness Saga, The Final Shape. The base pay-to-play game was released in September 2017 for consoles and in October 2017 for PC. This was changed to a free-to-play model on October 1, 2019, along with an update that saw a title change to New Light.
Activision initially published the game until December 31, 2018. After this Bungie regained publishing rights to the franchise. It later went on to introduce the free-to-play model that made the game a live-service title with recurring expansion releases that are purchasable.
In this article, we shall take a look at how far one can get in Destiny 2 without making any sort of purchase.

Destiny 2: Guide to F2P missions, modes, and more
Introductory Quests

Destiny 2's free-to-play gamers and newcomers in general can start the experience off with the New Light quest. By the end, as they get to experience the Cosmodrome, they will have a basic understanding of how the game works.
After this, players can go through the quest dubbed A Spark of Hope, which has a nice reward waiting at the end. They can then proceed to access the first missions for the Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, the Witch Queen, as well as the Lightfall campaign. These act as a showcase of the expansions so that players may decide if they want to purchase that DLC.
Destinations available

These introductory missions also unlock destinations for free-to-play players to access. There are a total of eight, which include the EDZ, Moon, Neomuna, Nessus, Cosmodrome, Dreaming City, Europa, and Savathun's Throne World.
Activities for Destinations

Each location will house some free-to-play activities like Public Events, Lost Sectors, Patrols, Bounties, and so on. There is also a list of 10+ Strike events that free-to-play players can access. Alongside these, there are some Battleground activities that they can access for free, which can be found on Cosmodrome, Europa, and Nessus.
Players may also access Crucible from only a selected list of its maps and game types. The Gambit is a game mode that can be accessed for free with only a handful of maps. This also includes Nightfalls, of which there are a total of eight, that free-to-play gamers can avail. There are higher-difficulty Nightfalls available that require a higher power level and are dubbed Nightfall Grandmaster.
Players can also avail private matches from Crucible and Gambit as well as access to bounties from Banshee-44, Drifter, Hawthorne, Zavala, Shaxx, Devrim, Shaw, Petra, and Failsafe. Mods, Visual upgrades, Crafting, and one singular Dungeon are the last notable elements of Destiny 2 that can be availed by newcomers who are looking for a completely free-to-play experience.
