Hardener is one of the common materials you'll need to farm in The First Descendant. As one of the lower tier of crafting materials (called core components in-game), you get them in large quantities from Vespers. Don't let this fool you, though. All common materials are also needed in proportionately high numbers to craft the equipment that require them.

In this guide, we'll share the most efficient way we've found to obtain this resource.

What's the best way to farm Hardener in The First Descendant?

The best way to farm Hardener in The First Descendant is to grind the Neutralize Void Experiment Operation in Vespers. With a starting Monster level of 31, the scaling of this mission is manageable even for mid-game players.

Specifically, Hardeners drop from Munitions and Resource Boxes found in Vespers.

The trick here is to run it in an organized squad. Once you boot into the mission, have someone focus on the objective, while you go looking for Munition canisters in the nearby area. Open up your Ecive (PC default keybind is Tab) to reveal nearby Munition locations. There are over a dozen of these within the area, with a majority of them lined up across the western edge of the map. A cluster of six can be found just northwest of the Lost Supply Depot Vulgus Outpost.

Munitions and Resource Boxes respawn roughly once every 90 seconds, so you can go circle the area once again after a while. Your squad can take turns doing this, which will also let everyone pick up the Hardener. As a by-product, you'll also get a good amount of Semi-permanent Plasma from a few of these Munitions.

The other obvious reward of this farm is the usual Special Operation goodies. Enemy density is low in Neutralize Void Experiment missions, so you'll only get a handful of Void Shards. However, you can get the following from wave-threshold rewards:

  • AMP 018: Perforator Synthetic Fiber Blueprint, Viessa Code, The Final Masterpiece Blueprint, Greg's Reversed Fate Nano Tube Blueprint, Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint,
  • AMP 019: Energy Activator Blueprint, Ajax Code, Piercing Light Blueprint, Blue Beetle Nano Tube Blueprint, Lepic Stabilizer Blueprint
  • Shape Stabilizer Form 3 (applicable on the above AMPs)

You'll need about 4,000 Hardeners to craft everything that requires it in The First Descendant. In the farming strategy we suggested here, it will take you about 45-60 minutes of grinding to reach that amount.
