How to farm Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant

All Players will eventually need to farm Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant. This rare material is used in crafting Crystallization Catalysts, a key progression item required for fitting more modules into your powerful weapons or Descendants. Thankfully, farming this material is not hard - and you can do so as early as the middle of the story campaign.

In this handy guide, we will share the most efficient Mixed Energy Residue farms in The First Descendant.

Easiest farm for Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant

To get Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant, you must progress in the campaign until you've unlocked the Vermillion Waste area in Agna Desert. Specifically, any Elite enemy whose name appears in orange can drop Mixed Energy Residue in Vermillion Waste.

All battlefield missions here can potentially fetch you one or two units of the rare material. However, the most efficient way to farm Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant is grinding the Surveillance Location mission.

Like any Resource Defense mission, this tasks you with defending a crate against a Legion of Immortality hordes. Your best bet here is running a mobbing Descendant like Bunny or Valby and camping the enemy spawn beacons with your nuke ability.

The mission will time out after 4 minutes, and you cannot finish it before that. However, if you spawn-camp enemies with a good mobbing setup, there are good chances of 2-3 orange-rarity enemies. The Mixed Energy Residue only drops in units of one, and it is not a guaranteed drop - so mobbing efficiency is the best way to optimize the farm.

To get the most out of it, you should farm this mission in Hard Mode. This gives you the same amount of Mixed Energy Residue, but additionally rewards a random amount of Legendary Reactor drops. You might get a god-roll Reactor for your build as a freebie!

The monsters also drop Code Breakers (Hard Mode) and Code Analyzers (Normal Mode). This opens up another avenue to farm Mixed Energy Residue in the First Descendant: an Encrypted Vault in Vermillion Waste.

The Encrypted Vault in Vermillion Waste can drop a lot of Mixed Energy Residue if you crack it open. For this, you need an Ultra-Precision Code Analyzer (Normal Mode) or Ultra-Precision Code Breaker (Hard Mode).

The specific Encrypted Vault you are looking for is located southward of the Baggage Transport Base mission in Vermillion Waste. Starting from the Outpost, stick towards the edge of the map to your left, and go forward till you find a hole in the ground next to a mesa.

On a cliff towards the right, you will find the Encrypted Vault that can drop Mixed Energy Residue in The First Descendant.

To make the process much more fruitful, you can bring the Enzo Descendant. Don't forget to loot the munition boxes around for Nanopolymers and Monomolecular Extractors.
