Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred Runes

Through the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred story, you’ll unlock powerful Runewords. You can equip two combinations of words, which replace gems in some of your armor. These Runes are remarkably powerful, and can give your class abilities it might not have. Do you want a Rogue with War Cry? That’s certainly feasible in the Vessel of Hatred expansion. However, at first, it’s going to feel a lot like Diablo 2, as Runes will feel rare, and won’t drop often. There are some ways to mitigate that and make them a bit easier to farm.

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred added these powerful Runewords to the game, though more could show up in the future. If you’re looking to farm Runes, we have some tips that will make it a little easier for you.

Can you easily farm Runewords in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred?

The best way to farm Runewords in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is to have access to the Undercity. You’ll have the ability to unlock this content as you play through the Vessel of Hatred storyline. A series of quests in Upper Kurast will take you through all three of the current dungeon layouts in Undercity. You can farm Runes, but it's not easy unless you have the right tools for the job.

While you can get Runes almost anywhere in the Vessel of Hatred endgame activities, the best place is Undercity. This is thanks to one of the Tributes that you can unlock here. You can get Tributes in many of the end-game activities in Diablo 4, such as Helltide chests, Seething Portals and Tree of Whispers caches. You can run Undercity without them and still get Rune drops, but they won’t be as plentiful.

If you want a good quantity of Runes, you'll need the Tribute of Harmony. Part of the Undercity gimmick in Diablo 4 is that you can use Tributes to guarantee specific drops - like Runes.

Tribute of Harmony guarantees Runes in your rewards as long as you get at least Attunement Rank 1 in a run, which is incredibly easy. However, the downside is that you may have to be on Torment difficulty to use this particular Tribute. That means you really can’t farm Runes easily in D4 Vessel of Hatred.

It’s unfortunate that there isn’t really an easier way to farm Runes in Diablo 4, unless the Tree of Whispers unveils a Rune Cache. In general, playing endgame activities is one of the most reliable ways outside of the Tribute Undercity runs. They aren’t going to show up as often, but it will also help you increase your power in general, with better gear and more resources.

There's one more option for farming Runes in D4 - Seething Opals. Seething Opals are a new type of Elixir in Season 6, and if you stumble upon Seething Opal of Socketables, you have a chance to see more Rune drops.

For a half hour, enemies will routeinely drop additional Gem Fragments, and occasionally Runes. This lets you go anywhere, and kill massive swarms of enemies for a shot at more Runewords.

As of Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, a wealth of Runewords were added to the game. Their actual rarity seems to vary wildly - though the most powerful Runewords, such as Lith feeling very hard to come by.

It's worth noting that you can find these in other places too, such as trading with other players, and purchasing them with gold on third-party websites - but we do recommend caution, because there are scammers who will try to leave you high and dry.
