To build a nuke-based character in The First Descendant, you'll inevitably need to farm Ultimate Reactors. Reactors in this game are the basis of your skill damage output, and Ultimate is the most 'premium' tier, as its golden border would indicate. These can boost that base skill power by 160% before other mod calculations are even brought into the equation.

This guide will explain everything about Ultimate Reactors in The First Descendant: how to farm them, and when to use them.

How to farm and spot the right Ultimate Reactors in The First Descendant

You can farm Ultimate Reactors quite easily after reaching Hard Mode, as each zone in this difficulty will have dedicated Ultimate component drop pools. Each Reactor can boost two stats—one Element-specific, and one Ability type-specific. Before you farm it, you must identify which two options could yield the most benefit.

Reactor names in First Descendant, explained

Each Descendant ability has two specific ability tags:

  • The Element determines what type of damage it deals: Non-Attribute, Fire, Toxin, and so on.
  • The Ability type can be one of four categories: Singular, Dimension, Tech, or Fusion.

The naming convention of any Reactor will reflect which combination they specialize in, based on the following table:

ElementAbility Type
Fire = Burning
Tech = Mechanics
Chill = FrozenFusion = Mixture
Toxin = ToxicDimension = Phase
Electricity = TinglingSingular = Singularity
Non-Attribute = Materialized-

After you unlock and select Hard Mode, you can switch to it, press world map (G), and then map rewards (F) to see which area is dropping which combination of Reactors this week.

Two of the sorting fields will let you select the Element and Ability type to make the process easier. For example, if you're trying to farm a Reactor for your Bunny loadout, you can sort by 'Electric' and 'Singularity' to only show the areas that are dropping this combination.

Afterward, it's a matter of loading into the maps with a mobbing character and then farming high enemy-density missions like Extermination. During that process, you can even farm some Kuiper Shards and Gold too!

Sorting through the loot: Cherry-pick Ultimate Reactors

As you pick up Reactors by the boatloads, make sure to periodically go into your menu to filter the good ones. Each Reactor comes with two additional stat boosts shown at the bottom of their item card, and the idea is to find the ones that fit your build.

Favorite the ones with two gold (or one gold, one purple) stat roll, and hover over them to see if they have the right stats as well as a viable weapon mounting requirement. If they do, you can favorite them for later use. Dismantle the rest, as the baseline stats will always be the same.

Ultimate Reactors vs Rare Reactors: Which one is better?

Ultimate Reactors always provide the highest skill stats if you're looking to min-max. However, they come with 'weapon mounting' requirements, which means you lose the bonus stats if you switch to a different weapon, even if they're still in your loadout.

This is why it's important to find an Ultimate Reactor that allows you to use an Ultimate Weapon you could main. Otherwise, Rare Reactors are far more flexible with their boost requirements, and you can use them as the perfect middle-ground option.
