How to farm Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic?

Volatile Air is an important material throughout WoW Cataclysm Classic, much like in the original retail version. It’s a material that, whether you farm it for money, or to use in your recipes, is going to be worth the time doing so. However, there are fewer Air Elemental-attuned mobs in the game than Water, Fire, and Earth. This makes it a bit trickier to farm. It’s not going to be as fun, but there is a dedicated way to acquire this useful material.

There are two reliable places to farm Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic, regardless of what class or race combination you’re playing. However, one of these is a bit slower, if there are people nearby questing. Here’s what you need to know.

Where to farm Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic?

Without a doubt, the best place to farm Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic is The Vortex Pinnacle, one of the dungeons added in this expansion. You can find it in Uldum, in the southeast corner of the map. It’s floating in the air, so you’ll have to do some flying to reach it. The fastest way to get here if you aren’t Hearthed to this area is to take the Uldum portal from Orgrimmar or Stormwind.

This dungeon is absolutely jam-packed with Air Elementals, that all have a chance to drop Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic. The reason I suggest this over Orsis is that there is a much larger group of elementals to farm. The downside is that you really can’t solo it, and will have to group up to do this. There are a few builds that can slowly kite trash and kill the enemies, but I hardly think it’s worth that amount of effort.

In addition, it also has a mount you can farm, Reins of the Drake of the North Wind. It drops off the third boss of the dungeon, Altarius. While you’re waiting for your queue for The Vortex Pinnacle (unless you have a dedicated group to do it with) you should definitely head to coordinates (40, 42) in Uldum.

There’s an enemy out here, Scion of Al’Akir that has a good chance to drop Volatile Air in WoW Cataclysm Classic. As I said, the downside is if people are questing in this area, the number of Air Elemental mobs you have to fight and farm drastically reduces. Another final way you can get Volatile Air is if you have Transmute: Living Elements. If you do this in the Uldum zone, you’ll get Volatile Air guaranteed.
