The Backpack in Fallout 76 is extremely useful because the game has a carry-weight mechanic where a player can carry around a certain amount of weight. This, naturally, can be increased by using a backpack. Although there are some backpacks available pretty early in Fallout 76, the Pioneer Scout Tadpole Backpack is the best.

In this article, we have shared the lengthy process of getting the Pioneer Scout Tadpole Backpack in Fallout 76. Make sure you are at least Level 30 before you attempt this mission.

Step 1: Start the Order of the Tadpole quest to get the best backpack in Fallout 76

  1. Go to the Pioneer Scout Camp and find a robot named Pompey to start the quest.
  2. The quest can take around two-to-three hours, depending on how fast you work through it.
  3. You will receive this quest under the Miscellaneous Missions tab after talking to the robot. Ensure the Order of the Tadpole quest is active, as the missions will not appear on the map otherwise. Completing it will reward you with the Pioneer Scout Tadpole Backpack in Fallout 76.

Step 2: Complete the Order of the Tadpole quest

You will be tasked with three missions:

Mission 1: Helpfulness

  • Go to Toxic Valley (beware of Snallygaster, Grafton monsters, and radscorpions).
  • Collect toxic waste and bring it to Kitty Corner Cabins, disposing of it in the blue waste container.

Mission 2: Bravery

  • Assist Scout Leader Treadley.
  • Go to Dolly Sods Campground.
  • Talk to Treadley to initiate the daily quest called Stings and Things. You’ll need to collect - Bloodbug proboscis, Bloatfly gland, Stingwing barb, and Tick blood sac.

Mission 3: Kindness

  • Revive a player.
  • Ask a friend to help or reach out to players on the server, explaining that you're working towards the backpack. Enemies should wound your friend to make the revive process easier.

Complete these collections and return to Dolly Sods to finish the task.

Step 3: Earn Tadpole Badges to get the Scout Backpack in Fallout 76

After completing the Helpfulness, Bravery, and Kindness missions, you will need to earn three badges. You can choose any three, but we recommend the following: Archer, Athlete, and Hunter.

Badge 1: Athlete

  • Complete three mini-marathons.
  • Camp Venture: Start the athletic course.
  • New River Gorge Bridge: Find the course at the top of the bridge, on the east side.
  • Sunnytop Ski Lanes: Be cautious of traps, as they are abundant in this area.

Complete these marathons within the time limits.

Badge 2: Archer

  • Complete the Archery challenges. We recommend using a crossbow to easily finish these tests.
  • Steps:
  1. Get a crossbow from the Palace of the Winding Path.
  2. Craft crossbow bolts at a Tinker’s workbench.
  3. Head to the Pioneer Scout Camp and complete the Archery test at the range. You’ll need to get five bullseyes.
  4. Then kill 50 enemies using your crossbow.
  5. Lastly, repair the crossbow three times to complete all the challenges.

Badge 3: Hunter

This badge is a bit more complex, requiring you to hunt and kill certain creatures with specific weapons.

  • Objective 1: Kill a Yao Guai with a pipe syringer. Lower the bear’s health with a stronger weapon, then finish it off with the syringer.
  • Objective 2: Kill a Yao Guai with a shotgun.
  • Objective 3: Kill a Radstag with a crossbow and a hunting rifle.
  • Objective 4: Kill a wolf with a knife. Lower its health with another weapon first to make the kill easier.
  • Objective 5: Kill a Radstag with a Black Powder Weapon.
  • Objective 6: Kill a Bear with an automatic weapon.
  • Objective 7: Cook meat from the animals after killing them.

You can find Yao Guai and other animals at locations like Dolly Sods and Forward Station Alpha. You will need a Black Powder Pistol for one of the hunt challenges, and you can find it to the left of the palace where you found the crossbow. There is a wooden house, enter it and then go up the stairs and hit the button. It will open the showcases, one of which contains the pistol.
