Merfolk's Merfruit in Sea of Thieves is one of the latest gameplay additions. The introduction of this new fruit has become one of the major highlights in Sea of Thieves season 14. The Merfolk's Merfruit is a special fruit that when cooked, allows players to keep Merfolk away from you until its effects run out. This feature significantly changes how players approach stealth and ambush tactics for taking down other ships in this game.

This article will explain what the Merfolk's Merfruit in Sea of Thieves is and how you can get it in-game.

Merfolk's Merfruit in Sea of Thieves: What does it do?

Whenever you go too far from your teammates, a mermaid will spawn in a waterbody near your location to teleport you back to your ship. If you sneak inside an enemy ship, waiting to regroup with your friends and ambush them, the Mermaid will spawn and give away your location to enemies. If they see a lone one near their ship, it's a sign that a lone pirate is here, prompting them to search thoroughly to find you.

This is why the Merfolk's Merfruit was recently introduced in Sea of Thieves. Like other fruits in Sea of Thieves, this fruit lets you heal half your health. However, its primary effect can only be activated if you cook it for 20 seconds and turn it into an Enchanted Merfruit. This perfectly cooked version of the fruit has a reddish-purple color and glows all the time.

This enchanted variant lets you keep mermaids from appearing near you for two minutes when you stray too far from your ship. However, it loses the ability to replenish your health upon consumption. This is a great way for players to wander off on their own away from other crew members.

However, you cannot stack the effect and make it last longer by eating multiple Merfruits. If you eat a second one before the Mermaid suppression timer runs out, you will simply reset the timer. You also cannot cancel the effect and its timer, forcing you to wait for two minutes before mermaids can appear again.

Therefore, if you plan to sneak aboard enemy ships and reveal their locations to your other teammates, you can consume an Enchanted Merfruit and keep away Mermaids from turning up and alerting opposing pirates. Additionally, if you see that a mermaid has already arrived to take you back to your ship, simply eat this fruit to make it go away.

Remember, you can keep track of the Mermaid suppression timer by opening your Item Radial wheel. You will see a circular Mermaid icon with a timer below it.

The only way to get Merfolk's Merfruit in Sea of Thieves is by looting storage containers. You can find many Rowboats, Storage Crates, Resource Barrels, and Barrels of Plenty floating in the sea at random locations. These barrels and crates mostly appear near sunken shipwrecks.

Moreover, you can find these barrels and crates in many pirate outposts. You will also find the Merruit in enemy ships if they have collected them previously.

However, remember that while the regular Merfruit will use up the same inventory space as other foods, the Encanted Merfruit is different. You can always carry a maximum of three of the latter along with five other food items.
