The Neon Umbrella is one of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail’s best cosmetics, but you’re going to have to do an intense grind to get it. It’s a grind players should be doing anyway, with each new expansion - think of it as the reward for a job well done. You won’t be able to receive the Neon Umbrella until late into your time in Dawntrail, depending on how hard you grind through the main story, and unlock all the zones.
That’s because you’ll need access to the FATEs in every single zone, meaning you need to complete a significant amount of the Main Scenario Quests in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. If you want to know exactly what you’re going to have to do, look no further.
How to unlock the Neon Umbrella in Final Fantasy 14
If you want the Neon Umbrella in Final Fantasy 14, you need to reach Rank 4 for Shared FATEs in all Dawntrail zones. This is something you can work on as you start the expansion, or you can wait until you’re level 100, and go back through each zone in turn. It’s entirely up to you. It’s also a great way to level up classes like Pictomancer and Viper.
However, this is a pretty lengthy grind. You need to complete 66 FATES in each zone, with a Gold Medal. It doesn’t matter what order you do them in, but it’s worthwhile. As you complete a zone, you can unlock faster movement speed when flying, and then you can unlock the Neon Umbrella as a final reward in Final Fantasy 14.
It costs 500 bi-color gemstones, and you can purchase it from Beryl in Solution Nine (8.4, 14). You cannot purchase it until you’ve met your goal for Shared FATES in FF14. As you can see from the screenshot above, I’m still very much working on my FATES. There are a few ways to approach it.
You can just solo them, which is the hardest way. It’s recommended to recruit a few friends to go area-to-area and complete the FATES. Since it’s still quite early in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail’s lifetime, you’ll more than likely find plenty of FATE farming groups in Party Finder.
The more people you have in a party, the faster it will go - provided you can do enough to get credit. Large FATE farming parties are best if you have a class that has attacks without a cast time - especially AOE attacks. Once you’ve finished each zone, you can head to Solution Nine, and buy this gorgeous cosmetic.
