A pet in Diablo 4 is something a lot of players are happy to have tagging along. When venturing out into the horrifying madness of the hellscape apocalypse, it can be nice to have a friend. Thankfully Blizzard has implemented pets into their game, so you never have to be without one of your adorable companions. There are a few to pick from, so there's probably one out there that's perfect for you.
On top of the visual aspect of having a furry creature following you around as you attempt to save the world, pets have a vital function in the title. So long as one of these companions is equipped and following you, they'll pick up ore, gems, gold, and other items that you don't pick up yourself. It's very important to make sure you always have your pet out for this reason, or else you may lose loot.
In this guide, we will tell you how to unlock pets, what they do, and how to get more of them.

Diablo 4 pet quest explained
When you log in to Diablo 4 after the pet update, you'll immediately be met with a Priority Quest. This quest, when completed, will unlock the ability to use pets for your account. When you see the Faithful Companion quest appear in your log, head to the West of Kyovashad to get started.
You should come across a quest marker around this location that directs you toward a Well Behaved Dog. To complete the quest and get your first pet, simply interact with the dog. Once done, you should be notified of the quest's completion and receive the pet in your inventory.
How many pets are there in Diablo 4?
After the new pet update in the title, four unique pets have been added to the game. Although they may look very different, each pet functions identically and only differs in appearance. Each of these four has its own name and style, which we'll list in the next section.
Blizzard has yet to confirm if they plan to implement more pets in the future, though we'd wager this is more likely than not. Players have a hard time resisting pets in any game, so it won't be surprising if Blizzard continues to add them with successive updates.

How to get other pets: Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred pre-order bonus explored
If you're a big fan of the first pet you unlock, you'll be happy to know that you can unlock three others. Unfortunately, there's no way to obtain these three pets via in-game currency or achievements. To unlock them, you'll have to pre-order one of the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred DLC editions. Below, we'll list the pets that accompany each edition.
It's worth noting that if you pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, you'll unlock the pets of the less expensive version as well. With all this in mind, if you're a big fan of in-game pets and you're already planning to get the new DLC, pre-ordering might just be worth it.
