The Ring of Misfortune in Diablo 4 Season 5 is an item that took players over a year to find in-game. Blizzard Entertainment did a good job of hiding the steps necessary to get the item to drop, but thankfully fans have uncovered them. It isn't particularly difficult to achieve, but it might be nearly impossible without some guidance. Thankfully, all you'll need is a Greed Shrine, a few friends, and a little patience.
Ever since the beginning of the Diablo franchise, Blizzard has been known for sneaking easter eggs into its world. These can range from fun lore drops, hints about a character's backstory, or even downright goofy things like the famous hidden cow level. Although we haven't yet found if Diablo 4 has its own cow level, one group of sleuths was able to find this secret.
In this article we're going to show you how to get the Ring of Misfortune and explain what unique effects it comes with.

Guide to get the Ring of Misfortune in Diablo 4
To get the Ring of Misfortune, you'll have to meet some very specific criteria. Once this is met, you'll be able to obtain a hidden drop, start a Diablo 4 questline, and receive the rare secret ring. But before you start, you'll need to have four players with you, one playing each different class, so it might be best to get that step taken care of first if you can.
To start the necessary questline, you'll need to find a Lucky Coin, a hidden item drop found in the open world. To get this item, you'll need to loot an NPC corpse while under the effect of a Greed Shrine. We highly recommend mapping your movement out in advance, as getting all of these prequesites to line up can be a bit rare in itself.
The best way to do this is to find an active shrine near a Diablo 4 Season 5 open-world event that you can ensure will have NPCs killed by monsters. Once you've activated the shrine, rush through the area and loot as many corpses as possible. With some luck, one of them will drop the Lucky Coin you need.
With this Lucky Coin in your inventory, you and the four other players will need to head to the Wishing Well in Scosglen. Here, you will be able to interact with the well and toss your coin inside. It's important to note that you must all throw your coins in one after the other, so make sure to coordinate who will be interacting in what order.
As each player interacts with the well, tossing their Lucky Coin inside, you should hear voice lines spoken by them. Once every player, one on each unique Diablo 4 class, has thrown their coin into the well, you should all receive a Ring of Misfortune drop on the ground nearby.

Ring of Misfortune's unique effects in Diablo 4
The Ring of Misfortune has an effect that matches its name quite well, an unfortunate one. Although this effect is not wholly negative, it may require an extremely specific Diablo 4 build for it to not do more harm than good. It seems that Blizzard clearly intended this item to be more of a fun easter egg to hunt for, as opposed to a rare meta gear piece.

When the Ring of Misfortune is equipped, it will apply all of the following status effects to your character:
Ring of Misfortune's effects in Diablo 4
- +13% Resistance to All Elements
- +13 All Stats
- +13 Armor
- +13 Thorns
- +13 Maximum Life
- +13 Life per Second
- Lucky Hit: Up to a 100% chance to lose all of your Resource
As you can probably tell, this is an odd set of status effects for any armor to have, from the repeating use of the number 13 to the total depletion of personal Resource on hit. Although it's not impossible, one would have to craft a very niche build for this item to work. If any of your main abilities rely on having personal resources available, then this ring will completely ruin your setup.
With all this in mind, we can't say we'd recommend you take this ring through any high-level content unless you're particularly daring or reckless. Effective use aside, however, the journey that players took to find this more than makes up for the misfortune of having putting it on.
