Diablo 4’s Runeshards are important for your overall growth, as they’re the currency for The Pit of Artificers. If you want to challenge this difficult content and pick up powerful loot, you’re going to need plenty of Runeshards. Each floor of this endgame content requires three Runeshards, and it’s not always clear where you can get them. While there are several places the Runeshards can drop, there are few reliable ways to farm them instead of just relying on luck.
If you’re looking to go into The Pit and need some more Runeshards in Diablo 4, we’ll help you get ready so that you can go as deep as you want into this activity. After all, there are 200 tiers to The Pit, so simply grinding up a handful of Runeshards just isn’t going to do it.

How to farm Runeshards in Diablo 4
You can find Runeshards from the following content:
- Whispers of the Dead Caches
- Gathering Legion Chests
- Nightmare Dungeons
- World Bosses
- Helltide Tortured Gifts
Runeshards in Diablo 4 can be farmed from virtually all endgame content. You need three Runeshards for each attempt into The Pit, regardless of what level it is, so thankfully it’s not an expensive grind. You can check to see how many you have by either going to Cerrigar and interacting with the Portal Activator or simply going to the Stats and Materials section of your inventory.
For my money, the best places to grind Runeshards in Diablo 4 are through Helltides, or The Tree of Whispers. Nightmare Dungeons also serve the purpose of powering up your Glyphs—at least until Season 6 begins, and Glyphs are reworked, but I don’t find I farm very many from these. That, and Nightmare Dungeons are my least-favorite end-game activity.
Helltide Chests always drop three Runeshards as well as a wealth of other useful items. If you see a group farming the Blood Maiden boss, you’ll have an easy time getting shards to open Helltide Chests, and thus, get Runeshards. You also receive them for collecting 10 Grim Favors and opening a Whispers of the Dead Cache (Tree of Whispers activity).
There are other ways, of course, but these two easiest activities are where I see the most success in farming Runeshards. Since there are always Helltides and Grim Favors out in the world to do, completing these activities to farm Runeshards in D4 is incredibly simple this way.
