Some powerful Support Gems in Path of Exile 2 only have two empty slots, but that doesn’t mean they’re restricted to that number. There is a way to increase the number of slots later in the game. Once you reach the end of Act 2 and begin Act 3, the resources for these will drop more often, which is great because that’s when you will need them.
In builds like Minion Witch, you need to increase the Support Gem slots for specific Path of Exile 2 skills – Raging Spirits, in particular. If you haven’t been able to figure out what you need, we’re here to help.
How to upgrade your Support Gem slots for skills in Path of Exile 2
To increase the number of Support Gem slots for skills in Path of Exile 2, you need Jeweller’s Orbs. There are three rarities of these, and each one will add a skill slot based on how many support gem slots there already are. That said, you won’t see any of these in the early game.
At first, you’ll likely only see Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs, which begin to drop at the end of Act 2 and the start of Act 3. I was particularly lucky, as I saw quite a few of them drop. There also appears to be a guaranteed drop for one of these orbs in Act 3. Deeper into the game, you’ll see Greater Jeweller’s Orbs and Perfect Jeweller’s Orbs. Here’s how they work.
When you have one, bring it to your inventory, and open the Skill screen. Then, find the Skill you want to add a Support Gem slot to and activate the Jeweller’s Orb. This will let you highlight a skill. Activate the item again, and the Skill you highlighted should have another Support Gem slot in PoE 2.
Here's what each Orb does:
- Lesser Jeweller’s Orb: Grants a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 2 Support Gem Sockets.
- Greater Jeweller’s Orb: Grants a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 3 Support Gem Sockets.
- Perfect Jeweller’s Orb: Grants a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 4 Support Gem Sockets.
If you need to increase your Support Gem slots for skills in PoE 2 but don’t have these valuable orbs, you can head to the Auction House and buy them! However, they don’t come cheap.
Greater Jeweller’s Orbs go for 9-17 Exalted Orbs, while Perfects for at least 64 Exalted Orbs. I recommend only using these on the most important skills initially, then spreading them to other skills to add further synergy.
