Volatile Motes and Vestigial Motes are the two new resources added to Warframe with the Jade Shadows update. You need to farm Volatile Motes eventually to get the new Arcanes, and Vestigial Motes urgently for the new Clan Operation. Fortunately, you can do both simultaneously since they drop from the same mission.

In this article, we will outline exactly what the Volatile Motes and Vestigial Motes do in Warframe and the fastest way you can farm them.

How to get Volatile Motes in Warframe

To get Volatile Motes in Warframe, clear the Ascension mission in Brutus, Uranus as part of the Belly of the Beast Operation. For this, select the mission and then the specific Operation variant.

The Operation variant of the new Ascension game mode gives you four to six Volatile Motes at the end of the mission, but does not grant the usual mission drops like Jade components or Void Relics.
If you beat this Operation on Steel Path mode, you get eight to 10 Volatile Motes instead.
On the Operation variant of Ascension, the Sister of Parvos drops 2-3x Volatile Motes upon death in addition to her regular drops.

How to get Vestigial Motes in Warframe

Vestigial Motes drop as the end-of-mission reward for the Ascension game mode in Brutus, Uranus. Unlike Volatile Motes, these drop on both the Operation a non-Operation variant of this mission.

If you're also trying to farm the new Jade Warframe, do the non-Operation variant. You have a 5% chance to get either of Jade's parts, weapon blueprints, or a Relic at the end of the mission in addition to Vestigial Motes.

What to do with Vestgial Motes and Volatile Motes in Warframe?

Vestigial Motes and Volatile Motes can both be used as a currency to buy various goodies from Ordis in Larunda Relay.

Vestigial Motes can be used to buy Jade's main blueprint, components, blueprints for Cantare, Harmony, and Evensong, and six new Arcanes.

What do the Sister Beacons do in Ascension?

During the elevator phase of Ascension, find three Sister Beacons as an "optional objective." Collecting all three of these Sister Beacons will summon a Sister of Parvos encounter. She is Level 75 on the normal star chart, and Level 175 on Steel Path.

Defeating her grants the following:

Ascension	5-7 Vestigial Motes	8-10 Vestigial Motes, an Arcane, 4x Steel Essence

The Arcane will be one of the six new Arcanes added in Warframe Jade Shadows.

Fastest way to farm Volatile Motes and Vestigial Motes: Which Warframes to use?

The most efficient way to play the Ascension game mode is on the Steel Path Operation variant. This yields Motes of both kinds in the highest amounts.

This mission is done best in a squad, but if you must do this solo, the best Warframe to use is Titania or Jade, equipped with the Silence ability from Helminth. If you are good at utilizing Cloud Walker, Wukong can also be a good choice.

In a squad, we had good results with the following composition:

Wisp: Can cast motes on the elevator, making the phase much more survivable.
Banshee: Silence nullifies the Jade Eximus' special ability.
Wukong/Titania: A Warframe with free flight-pathing can scout ahead and look for Sister Beacons, as the drops are too good to pass up.
Saryn: The anti-Corpus killing machine, to be put on pest control.

If you do this on Steel Path Operation mode and successfully defeat the Sister, each Ascension run gives you the following:

21-25 Vestigial Motes
10-14 Volatile Motes
Guaranteed Arcane drop
4x Steel Essence
