Console players need to know how to set up a Palworld Xbox dedicated server in order to play with their friends in custom worlds. Pocketpair has been diligently working to introduce dedicated servers for Palworld. This feature is now available to all Palworld Update Preview participants on both Xbox and Windows. With dedicated servers, players can connect to both official and community servers to get a unique and private experience of the monster-taming game.

This article will guide you through setting up your own dedicated server on Xbox, inviting your friends, and embarking on adventures across Palpagos.

Palworld servers set up using the following steps will accept connections from Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and the Windows PC version downloaded from the Microsoft Store. However, cross-play with the Steam version is not possible at this time. Ensure your machine is updated to the latest DirectX and/or C++ Runtimes if required.

If you’re looking to set up a dedicated server on Xbox, follow these steps:

Using SteamCMD on Windows

1) Download the Dedicated Server: Execute the following command to download the dedicated server: steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2394010 -beta insiderprogram validate +quit

2) Change Server Settings for Xbox: Start the dedicated server once and then stop it to generate the configuration file. Then, follow these instructions:

  • Navigate to steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\PalWorldSettings.ini.
  • Add the following content: [/Script/Pal.PalGameWorldSettings] OptionSettings=(AllowConnectPlatform=Xbox)

3) Start the Server: Move to the directory where the server was downloaded (usually where SteamCMD was installed) to cd .\steamapps\common\PalServer. Then, execute PalServer.exe to start the server.

For Xbox users to join, configure it as a community server. Have players join from the community server list since direct IP address connection is not possible on Xbox.

3) Start the Server: Move to the directory where the server was downloaded (typically under your home directory if no custom directory was set); cd ~/Steam/steamapps/common/PalServer

  • Execute PalServer.sh to start the server.

How to join the Palworld Update Preview for Xbox users

To participate in the Palworld Update Preview, you must either own the game or have access to it via an active Game Pass subscription. Here’s how to join:

  1. Install the Xbox Insider Hub: Open the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC. If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Navigate to the Preview: Go to the Previews section and find the Palworld Update Preview.
  3. Join the Preview: Select "Join" and wait for the registration to complete. Once done, you will be directed to the Store Page to install the preview.
  4. Restart if necessary: If the title is already installed, restart your console or PC to ensure you receive the update prompt for the Update Preview version.

Reverting to the Public Version

If you wish to revert to the publicly available version of of the game, leave the Update Preview via the Xbox Insider Hub. This will prompt an update reversion.

If you encounter any issues while playing the Update Preview, use the "Report a problem" feature on Xbox for assistance:

  1. Hold down the home button on your Xbox controller.
