How to start a mission in The Forever Winter

The Forever Winter does not have an abundance of content in its Early Access. There's a handful of maps you can travel to, which all give you a good overlook of the gameplay loop you can expect. All of these missions start from the Innards, your hub space. The game drops you right into this hub with a very brief tutorial, but it can be a bit confusing on how to progress from here.

How to start an Extraction quest in The Forever Winter

To load into an Extraction mission in The Forever Winter, all you have to do is go to the menu, and then select Ready Room on the top right. This will boot you into the lobby screen, where you can invite co-op teammates or recruit an AI buddy (when you've unlocked one).

Another way to do it is by walking to the exit physically. The exit from Innards to a mission zone is straightforward—literally. From the place you spawn, follow the railroads and walk past the loadout station to the other end of the tunnel. This end will be lit by a strong red light, and you can press 'E' to get into the Ready Room.

Once here, you can Begin Countdown to load into a mission. By default, this will load you into the Cemetery entry point in the Scorched Enclave region. If you want a less fight-heavy start, you can go to the Regions tab and select Cliffs as your entry point instead.

On the other hand, Cemetery has several common Water locations near the spawn. Water is quite important in The Forever Winter, as it's the main way to unlock more facilities in the Innards. On top of this, the Water mechanic is what keeps your hub space alive, so to speak. You'll need to stock up on it as much as possible if you want to retain your stashed gear.

Before you load into a mission, though, don't forget to collect the first Scav quest from the Quest Terminal. This will require you to simply extract from a mission in one piece, and rewards you with some starter resources.
