Diablo 4 Season 6 - Season of Hatred - is now available, regardless of whether you unlock the new expansion. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll have access to things like Runewords, Mercenaries, and other new additions to the game. The expansion-exclusive content remains that way until you purchase it. One of the unfortunate drawbacks to this season is it might get drowned out by the new expansion story content.

We recently got hands-on with Diablo 4 ahead of Season 6 and Vessel of Hatred. This also let us play through the new Season of Hatred content, so if you want to know how to get started, we’re here to help you out.

Once you’ve made a Season 6 character in Diablo 4, you can immediately start working on the new content. Season of Hatred introduces gigantic, roaming bosses known as Realmwalkers. However, you can’t just dive into that fight. First, you’ve got to get introduced to it. The game does a good job of doing just that. You can even do this as a Spiritborn if you bought the expansion.

Head to Zarbinzet, and speak to the NPC with a green icon over their head, Crusader Damond. Ask “What’s going on?”, and he’ll tease you with promises of giant monsters and portals to demonic realms. He wants your help in taking down these gigantic foes, and that’s part of this season.

This gives you the requirements of “Defeat a Realmwalker” and “Complete a Seething Realm.” Thankfully, there’s a Realmwalker that spawns every 15 minutes somewhere around the world. Just pull up your map and look for the Realmwalker icon. It’s a green icon, so it’s easy to spot on your map.

Once the timer is down, this part of the Diablo 4 Season 6 intro begins. The Realmwalker gets up and roams, but it’s completely invulnerable. You need to slaughter the enemies that come to defend it in order to anger it.

While you can’t harm the Realmwalker conventionally, if you defeat Bloodbound Guardians, you will damage it. Once you anger it enough, it’ll settle down, and three Hatred Spires will spawn. You need to defeat these spires next.

This is timed, so you need to really focus. You have two minutes before this Season 6 objective in Diablo 4 disappears. Success means you can fight the gigantic Realmwalker directly. The Realmwalker has powerful shockwave and stomp attacks, but it won’t take much to defeat it.

This will lead you to a Seething Realm portal, which you can dive right into. These chaotic dungeons have plenty of monsters and treasure to unlock. Your goal here is to reach the Realm Gate. Once you’ve reached it, you can sacrifice a number of different resources to open a portal and also receive Seething Opals.

For example, you can sacrifice Iron Chunks to get Gold Seething Opals or Sigil Powder to receive a Seething Opal that helps you unlock Torment challenges. These Seething Opals give +15% exp, help you get exp with the Zakarum Remnants (Seasonal Faction), and assist in certain types of items dropping when you kill enemies.

After you dive into the next portal, you’ll have a goal of reaching the Seething Wellspring in a monster-filled, chaotic dungeon. Look for the Seething Rupture portal, which will take you to the Wellspring area. This is where you’ll find some treasure chests to loot.

The boss of the dungeon awaits in the Seething Wellspring part of the map, like most dungeons. Defeat it, claim your rewards, and leave! You’re officially in Season 6 content in Diablo 4.
