Dark Citadel is Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred’s latest endgame content, for two or more people. Unlocking this content can take a significant amount of time, depending on how quickly you progress through late-game quests and gameplay loops. It will require you to play on Torment I difficulty - so if you aren’t strong enough to do this alone, you can always bring a friend to help you carry through it.
Dark Citadel is one of the biggest changes in Diablo 4 by introducing a multiplayer raid. The Vessel of Hatred expansion had group-based content before like World Bosses, but you don’t have to queue up together for that - just show up. If you want to know how to unlock Dark Citadel, we’ve got you covered.
Requirements to unlock Dark Citadel raid in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred’s Dark Citadel raid is definitely a late-game activity. You have to complete a laundry list of objectives, but once you do, the weekly multiplayer raid will be available for you to tackle. If you want to know what exactly that takes, here are the requirements:
- Level 60
- Complete all Main Story Quests
- Complete the post-story quest Deeds of a Champion
- Complete the short side quest chain Crater of Lost Souls
- Play on Torment I
Most of this is pretty self-explanatory - you need to defeat the final boss of Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred and also hit the level cap. You may not be level 60 by the time you defeat the final boss. It depends on how much side content you do, or what difficulty level you’re playing on.
After this, you’ll get the lengthy Deeds of a Champion quest chain. It will essentially guide you through all of the endgame/extra content you can do in the game. For example, it’ll ask you to do things like play through five dungeons in Nahantu, use the Tree of Whispers, complete Helltides/slay the Blood Maiden, and reach Torment 1 difficulty (The Pit of Artificers Level 20).
Once you’ve done that and unlocked your rewards for it, swap to Torment 1 and head down into Kurast. You can track the quest from your map, by highlighting Crater of Souls in the Priority quest section. This is a relatively short quest chain, but you do need to be capable of killing monsters in Torment 1. Once you’ve wrapped this up, you can tackle the Dark Citadel raid.
