How to unlock the new Facewear feature in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail

Facewear Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail introduced some lovely new features, like the ability to equip a Facewear cosmetic (Image via Square Enix)

Facewear is an exciting new feature in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. One problem players had with cosmetics in the game is the same one you have in most MMOs: You cannot equip glasses at the same time as any hat or helmet cosmetic. It’s not something that made sense, because a character can need, or want glasses, while also wearing a fashionable cap. Now that’s a thing of the past - but unlocking some of these might cost a pretty penny.

Revealed in the Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail patch notes, you can now wear a variety of colored cosmetic Facewear options, provided you have the gear. Thankfully, simply unlocking this option will give you one to use. Here’s everything to know about this great new cosmetic feature.

You can be at any level to unlock Facewear in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. All you need to do is be in one of the three major cities and go to the local Calamity Salvager. You can find them below, if you don’t know where they are:

  • Limsa Lominsa: Upper Decks (11.4, 14.4)
  • New Gridania: Old Gridania: (10.0, 8.4)
  • Ul’dah: The Steps of Thal (12.6, 13.1)

Visit this NPC and click the penultimate setting: Spectacles Exchange. The NPC will then exchange any spectacles cosmetics you previously unlocked. If you don’t have any, don’t worry, there are still some in the game. For example, the only ones I had in my possession were from Series 1 of Crystalline Conflict: Shaded Spectacles. Once you have some Facewear, it’s incredibly easy to set it as a part of your cosmetics. Unfortunately, Facewear in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail is not available in the Glamour Plate, but you can set it from your character settings anytime. Just open your character menu and click the square on the bottom left of your equipment: Facewear.

Thankfully, these Spectacles can be worn by any class - whether you’re a White Mage or Pictomancer. When you select a pair from the Facewear menu in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, you can pick an assortment of colors for them, and these all unlock at the same time for each pair of glasses. Then, just confirm it, and resume playing the game.
