Despite being out for over a decade, is Diablo 3 still worth playing in 2024? It’s hard to say, considering we have Diablo 2 Resurrected, D4, and an expansion on the way soon. There are some people who aren’t thrilled with the path Diablo 4 took and others who simply have never played the game that came before it. Though D3 won’t likely be getting any major changes or seasons as fresh and new as the current release, is it still worth playing?

I’d have to say yes, Diablo 3 is worth playing in 2024, even if you’ve played it before. Now, if you’re looking for progression and to challenge new things, it might not be worthwhile. Let’s talk about D3, and its value in 2024.

Yes, Diablo 3 is still worth playing in 2024, with a few caveats. If you’re brand-new to the game, it’s 100% worth playing. D3 had a solid storyline, and depending on who you ask, some of the best gameplay. It also features a Paladin-style class in the Crusader, which many fans are still asking about in Diablo 4. Instead, players have the Spiritborn class coming in Vessel of Hatred.

Even after all this time, Diablo 3 is still getting new seasons with repeated themes. We’re currently on Season 32: Ethereal Memory. It’s a return of a previous mechanic (Ethereal Memory), which brings back a fun weapon type, Ethereal.

At the end of the day, D3 is still worth playing in 2024 - it features a great story, excellent combat, and it’s significantly cheaper than Diablo 4. You can likely pick it up for around $20 for the base game, $30 if you want the expansion, and $40 if you also want the Necromancer class.

I think that there’s still plenty of value in the game as a casual-action RPG. There’s lots of powerful gear to chase, and if you have friends that still play it - like I do - then it’s worth it to just log in with them and kill demons for a few hours. Sure, it’s not likely to set the world on fire with some crazy new expansion or seasonal mechanics, but it’s fun.

If you aren’t into Diablo 4 or other Action RPGs and are looking for something relatively inexpensive and fun, then you can’t really go wrong with Diablo 3. From great classes to powerful bosses, there’s a lot to love about this game. Sometimes, it’s nice to look back on where we’ve been, to truly appreciate where we are, and D3 can certainly help D4 players who aren’t thrilled with the current game.

D3 isn’t incredibly expensive it’s still fun, and it does get regular seasonal updates to try things you may not have tried before. That makes it worthwhile. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Somehow, it doesn't have 4K monitor support, even in 2024. If you want to play it full screen on a 4K monitor, you have to play in full screen (not borderless windowed). It's not perfect, but it's still a fun game.
