Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred recently launched as an epic expansion to the Blizzard Entertainment action RPG, but can you get it on Xbox Game Pass? Well, there’s certainly good news and bad news for players of the base game. Yes, you can get this expansion on Game Pass, but not for free. Simply owning an Xbox Game Pass subscription is not enough to access any of the content for the DLC.

If Game Pass users want to play Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred and try out the Spiritborn class, they can, but it cannot be done for free like the base game. Here’s what you need to know about playing the Vessel of Hatred expansion as an Xbox Game Pass holder.

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred will not be free on Game Pass

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred launched globally on October 8, 2024, and while it is available on Game Pass, it is not available for free. All games that have DLC and expansions on Game Pass are the same way. You can access that content, but only if you purchase it. That said, buying the expansion through Game Pass means you get a minor discount on it.

So if you’re an Xbox or PC Gamer that uses Game Pass and wants to play Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred and access the Nahantu region, Undercity time trials, and the Dark Citadel raid, you’ll need to purchase the Vessel of Hatred expansion separately like other players.

If you want to purchase one of the game’s various editions, here's how the prices look like:

  • D4 Vessel of Hatred Standard Edition: $39.99 ($35.99 with Game Pass)
  • D4 Vessel of Hatred Deluxe Edition: $59.99 ($53.99 with Game Pass)
  • D4 Vessel of Hatred Ultimate Edition: $89.99 ($80.99 with Game Pass)

Some players may also want to future-proof their gameplay since there’s always a chance that D4 leaves Game Pass sometime in the future or they are going to cancel their subscription. In that case, users can purchase an expansion bundle that comes with the base game+expansion for $69.99 ($55.99 with Game Pass).

The other editions (Deluxe and Ultimate) are for players who want more cosmetics, pets, and things of that nature.

There is always a chance that Blizzard Entertainment will give fans who haven’t purchased the Vessel of Hatred expansion free access for a weekend somewhere down the line, as they did for the base game. However, that won’t require having a Game Pass subscription. That’s something that fans will likely be able to take advantage of no matter what.
