Last Epoch launched in its full release state in February 2024 and enjoyed a measure of success rarely found in the ARPG genre (unless it is Path of Exile-related). Since then, the game has encountered a tumultuous year with a few setbacks and lackluster performance. Naturally, the question arises: Should I play Last Epoch in 2025?
The fledgling ARPG has had quite the rollercoaster ride in the last few months. From clocking in an all-time-high player count of 2,64,708 to registering 71,727 during the peak of the first season, Last Epoch has experienced the entire ebb and flow of player feedback. Now that the player count has fallen to below 3,000, the questions regarding the game's longevity are becoming pertinent.

Should you play Last Epoch in 2025?
The answer to this question is much more subjective than an objective one. You should obviously play Last Epoch if you are interested in a title with considerable endgame mechanics and extensive character customization options. More so than that, Last Epoch can be a solid entry point for a newer player to delve into the basics of ARPG.
The subjective aspect of whether you should play Last Epoch in 2025 arises when you analyze what the game offers in its current state, and what else it has in store for this year and the foreseeable future. Currently, Last Epoch offers players a lengthy and rock-solid campaign, an established endgame, challenging boss fights, and a smooth character progression system.
As the developers move into 2025, the upcoming Season 2 is poised to bring quality-of-life updates for its dungeons, updates to its persistent endgame content with new bosses and a better crafting system, reworks of the Sentinel class, new factions, and new rewards, among other things. This update is set to arrive in April 2025; till then, you'd have to be content with all that Last Epoch currently boasts.

Last Epoch currently has five classes with three unique mastery paths each, so there's a lot of build variety out of the gate. The campaign is fully fleshed out with nine lengthy chapters. The endgame spans multiple timelines, and has several factions that can change progression and reward structures.
Season 1 Harbingers of Ruin has introduced several new challenges such as harder endgame bosses called Harbingers, a pinnacle encounter against Aberroth, and the Nemesis system. Alongside the boss-kill-focused Forgotten Knights faction and quality-of-life changes to several gameplay mechanics, Season 1 has been a solid update, marred by an unfortunate market crash.
Despite so much content to chew on, the answer to whether you should play Last Epoch or not, unfortunately, becomes a personal opinion. If you need something different than Path of Exile and its sequel or want to engage with something a little more complex than Diablo 4, then Last Epoch is a solid choice. At the end of the day, you should always try something different.
