Work suitability in Palworld is a unique feature that lets you utilize your tamed monsters for daily chores at your base. Despite the many comparisons between Palworld and Pokémon, one thing fans of the former can confidently say is that Pokémon games will never allow players to use the creatures as free labor in any of its games.

The moral compass may be a little gray here, but it is extremely fun to see majestic creatures performing everyday tasks like gardening and keeping the fire alive at a forge. However, the tasks a Pal can perform depend on their work suitability, and yes, you can permanently increase their work suitability. This guide shows how you can do that.

While work suitability levels are fixed by default, you can permanently increase them using the Pal Essence Condenser.

Building the Pal essence condenser

To upgrade Pals, you first need a Pal Essence Condenser. To unlock this structure, reach Player Level 14 and spend an Ancient Technology Point, which you can earn by defeating bosses like Zoe and Grizzbolt, Sweepa, or Gumoss. Once unlocked, gather these materials:

  • 20 Paldium Fragments
  • 20 Ingots
  • 5 Ancient Civilization Parts

Once built, the condenser can be placed anywhere on your base.

Upgrading Pals using the Condenser

Using the Pal Essence Condenser, you can upgrade a Pal by sacrificing extra copies of the same species. Each upgrade increases the Pal’s stats, enhances its Partner Skills, and boosts its work suitability at the final tier. However, the number of Pals required increases with each rank:

  • Rank 1: 4 Pals
  • Rank 2: 16 Pals
  • Rank 3: 32 Pals
  • Rank 4: 64 Pals

In total, you’ll need 117 Pals to reach max rank. The process permanently sacrifices the extra Pals, so make sure you use it on a Pal that has some decent work Suitability in Palworld. Also, keep in mind not all Pals are eligible to be upgraded to Level 5. Use your Paldeck to identify Pals that can be upgraded to the max level.

If you’re short on time or resources, purchase a Concentrated All-Purpose Pal Extract from a Medal Merchant using Dog Coins. This item instantly upgrades a Pal by one rank, saving you the effort of farming additional Pals for sacrifices. While costly, it’s a great option for speeding up the process.

What is work suitability in Palworld?

This aspect determines which tasks a Pal can perform at your base. Each Pal has specific suitability traits, such as Kindling, Planting, Handiwork, Lumbering, and Medicine Production. There are 12 traits in total, covering tasks like Mining, Watering, and Generating Electricity. These traits are fixed for each Pal species, meaning every Pal of the same type will have identical suitability traits.

Crafting stations at your base require specific traits to operate. For example, a Primitive Workbench can be used by a Pal with the Handiwork trait, while a Crusher needs a Pal with the Watering trait. To assign a Pal, build the station, check its required traits (visible when you approach it), and ensure the Pal with the matching trait is retrieved from the Palbox.
