Jade Shadows status rework has broken Slash in Warframe

The status effect rework in Warframe's Jade Shadows update is a game-changer. Unfortunately, it changed the game a bit too much, as the Slash status effect is broken on day one of Update 36.0, dealing only a negligible fraction of its intended damage and essentially becoming useless against high-level enemies.

As of the writing of this article, the Slash status effect is bugged and no longer ignores armor. While the bug will likely get hotfixed soon, today is the only point in years where Slash has not been good in Warframe.

Bugged Slash effect has nerfed the Dante Warframe once again

The Slash status effect, like all other DoTs in Warframe, deals six ticks of 'Slash' damage. The main attraction of Slash over other DoTs is that it completely ignores enemy armor.

This is what has made Slash-Viral the go-to Warframe meta for years on end. However, today's patch puts a hopefully temporary dent in that reign.

From our testing in the Simulacrum, Slash ticks are applying their damage after calculating armor mitigation. This is evident from three related phenomenons:

  • Slash tick damage is surprisingly low compared to pre-update 36.0
  • Slash tick damage increases upon partially and fully armor stripped enemies
  • If the armor-strip effect goes away, subsequent Slash ticks deal very little damage - just as it did pre-armor-strip

No changes to Slash were documented on the Warframe Update 36.0 patch notes, meaning this is almost certainly a bug that will get fixed soon. However, as an unintentionally hilarious consequence, this bug nerfs Dante yet again.

From being an overpowered frame on release, Dante has been hit by a series of nerf-hammers. Even one full major update later, Dante can't catch a break. Today's Slash bug completely neuters his nuke Final Verse combo, as its schtick is converting Slash ticks to burst-damage.

If you've not been following Warframe for a while, you can catch up on the changes in our detailed guide on the status effect rework in Jade Shadows.
