Bungie announces 8v8 Sparrow PvP game mode in Destiny 2

A new 8v8 Sparrow PvP game mode will be released on Destiny 2 in celebration of the upcoming GCX 2024. The idea of putting vehicles alongside a PvP game mode was born due to a bug in Iron Banner, where players were able to use their Sparrow to traverse between Control points. Bungie decided to implement this bug as a feature, where they will be further elevating the mode with more players.

It seems the release date for this game mode is August 16, as Bungie stated that it is turning on the new experimental game mode "tomorrow" via the August 15 TWID. The new Sparrow Control will be live until August 20, and then again be made available starting August 27 for two more weeks.

8v8 Sparrow Control announced in Destiny 2

The upcoming 8v8 mode is going to be Bungie's first attempt at putting 14 players inside a single PvP match. The company has warned its playerbase that the game mode will be released in an experimental state, so things might be broken within. Here's what Bungie stated regarding the Destiny 2 game mode:

"In honor of GCX going live we wanted to give everyone attending something new to play. Tomorrow, we are turning on a new experimental Crucible Labs version of Sparrow Control. It’s eight Guardians facing off against eight Guardians for maximum chaos, so be ready to share your insurance information."

Regarding the quality assurance, the company stated this:

"This is a highly experimental mode as we have never tried to cram this many Guardians into one Crucible match before. Things could get a little hairy. We will be monitoring stability and may turn it off if necessary."

As mentioned, Destiny 2 players might not get the game mode between August 20 and 27. However, with the start of Act 3, Sparrow 8v8 Control will return for two weeks.
