It appears Bungie is bringing back one of the most popular Hand Cannons in Destiny 2. This gear piece is a Legendary weapon from the Nightfall loot pool, known as The Palindrome. It usually sits in the energy slot of the inventory and fires 140 rounds per minute, bearing the Adaptive Framed archetype, much like several other Hand Cannons currently available in the game.
The Palindrome was special because it was the only Void Adaptive Hand Cannon that came with Adept stats during its time, after which Bungie completely removed the weapon from the loot pool. However, on January 14, Bungie tweeted via their official developer's account, alongside the following statement:
"On a clover, if alive, erupts a vast, pure evil; a fire volcano."
This is a popular 'Palindrome phrase,' meaning that every word will be the same even if someone reads it backward. The Palindrome Hand Cannon in Destiny 2 has an in-game description that reads "Draw O Coward," which is also the same if read backward.
The Palindrome expected to return in Destiny 2
The Palindrome was once the most-used weapon in Destiny 2 PvP. It had perks such as a Rangefinder and a Killing Wind, paired with the Adept stats from Grandmaster Nightfall Strikes. However, the return of The Palindrome in the current meta will likely have synergy perks with Void 3.0 for PvE, and potent PvP perks, such as Precision Instrument and Lone Wolf.
Following a tweet by Destiny 2 Team on X, the official game account replied with a statement saying "Now, sir, a war is won," which is also a Palindrome phrase, further confirming the Hand Cannon's return.
Players should note that any official date for The Palindrome's return hasn't been confirmed yet. However, it can be safely assumed that Bungie might just add the weapon in Episode Heresy's Nightfall pool, as its launch is just around the corner.
