The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road expansion is the eighth major chapter in the fantastical tales of Tamriel, set in the new region of West Weald. It's slated for release on Monday, June 3, 2024, on PC/Mac. While the expansion will have a global release on all servers, it won't be simultaneous across all platforms, with PC/Mac players getting to experience it earlier.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the different release dates for Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road, depending on the platform.
When is Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road coming to Xbox and PlayStation?
The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road expansion will make its way to consoles on June 18, 2024. The release time for this is not known yet - but a good way to estimate is by checking the ESO Server notifications page to check for patch maintenance schedule.
At any rate, barring any technical setbacks, both XBox and PlayStation 5 players will get to enjoy the latest Chapter on June 18.
PC players get to enjoy Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road release earlier
Updates being shipped on the PC build is a time-honored tradition for Elder Scrols Online. This applies not only to major expansions but also to DLCs that are released between each chapter, as well as their PTR versions.
Likewise, with Gold Road, console players are only getting the update a full fortnight after the PC release.
While it may disappoint eager console players, there are also some upsides to it. For one, minmaxing players will have an easier time with juggling the game content, as the meta will likely be figured out by this point. Consoles will also receive a relatively more bug-free and balance-patched version compared to the first PC release patch of Gold Road (Update 42).
Elder Scrolls Online also has separate economies for consoles, meaning PC players don't get much of a headstart on the competitive leaderboards.
This isn't the only difference between the Elder Scrolls Online and another prominent MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14. The latter is also releasing its latest expansion next month, but unlike the Elder Scrolls Online, it will launch on all platforms simultaneously, with players sharing servers across them.
Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 incentivizes pre-ordering their upcoming expansion by offering players early access to it. On the other hand, there's no early access for the Gold Road expansion in the Elder Scrolls Online. However, many players consider the earlier release of the PC/Mac version to be a form of early access.
