The developer of Once Human, Starry Studio, faced significant backlash after announcing its plans for the Seasonal Scenario system, which would function like a soft reset—wiping your map progression and most of your resources, except for currencies and blueprints. Initially, they provided a list of items that would carry over, but Deviants were notably missing from that list.
Similar to Pals from Palworld, Deviants are companions with unique abilities that assist in various aspects of gameplay. However, some are extremely rare and require extensive grinding to acquire. The omission of Deviants from the carry-over list raised concerns among players, who worried that their hard-earned companions might not transfer to the second season, forcing them to grind all over again.
However, the developer recently addressed these concerns in a blog post, confirming that Deviants will indeed transfer cross-season:
"We are pleased to confirm that players can already transfer their hard-earned Deviations to the next season. Deviations are moved to Eternaland when the season ends, allowing Metas to carry over some of their Deviations according to Eternaland's rules."
Numerous quality-of-life improvements for Deviants in Once Human are also on the horizon
Deviants in Once Human aren't all found in the open world. Some spawn under rare conditions, while others drop from specific bosses or unique locations. Among them, Dr. Wish is the rarest, requiring over 70 runs of a particular Silo (dungeon) to obtain.
Beyond concerns about cross-season Deviant transfers, players have also voiced frustrations with the current systems for acquiring rare Deviants. In a welcome move, the developer has acknowledged these concerns, outlining several upcoming quality-of-life improvements in the latest dev blog post.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of a guarantee system for Deviants, making it easier to obtain the companions you want without enduring dozens of dungeon runs.
Additionally, the developer plans to introduce a system that will allow players to enhance weaker Deviants by fusing them. This change will simplify the process of obtaining high-level Deviants, which is currently quite challenging, especially for those that are already difficult to discover.
Players are quite pleased with these upcoming changes, as the developer continues to respond positively to feedback, demonstrating its commitment to improving the game.
