The Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail expansion was released in early access on Friday, June 28, 2024. While the PC version's performance has been exemplary, featuring significantly better queue times compared to previous expansion launches, the Xbox version hasn't been as fortunate, encountering constant freezing issues.
Naoki Yoshida, the game director of Final Fantasy 14, has apologized and announced plans to address these problems. However, it's unlikely that the patch to resolve these issues will be released before the official launch of the game on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Yoshi P suggests a temporary solution to the memory fragmentation for Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail
The Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail encountered a recurring issue following the early access launch of the new expansion. Players transitioning between locations, such as field areas and cities, experienced the client becoming unresponsive. This problem was promptly reported and investigated by Square Enix, who identified the cause as memory fragmentation.
While the developer has prioritized this issue, the patch to fix it will take some time as it requires meticulous testing.
Yoshi P addressed the issue in a Lodestone post, stating:
"We are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter, which we have prioritized to ensure a swift resolution. However, rectifying this issue requires the deployment of a patch to update the client. This process involves rigorous checks by our QA team, among other procedures, which means it may take several days to address."
He further added:
"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to address the issue."
The developer has also suggested that players temporarily consider playing on the Dynamis (NA), Shadow (EU), or Oceania Data Centers to reduce the likelihood of encountering memory fragmentation, which is causing the freezing issues.
According to the developer, memory fragmentation occurs when a large number of characters are displayed on the screen at the same time. So, playing on the newly introduced Data Centers with lower population densities might alleviate this issue.
