No Man's Sky The Cursed: How to begin Expedition 16

No Man's Sky The Cursed is the 16th Expedition that Hello Games has introduced in the game. It brings a Halloween spook to the space-faring title for a limited time (about two weeks from October 23, 2024). There are plenty of rewards to unlock during this mission, including Boundary Horror Mandibles (Exosuit Appearance Override) and Ink-Stained Jetpack Trail (Jetpack customization).

Hello Games described The Cursed as:

"The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next. Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted."

How to start Expedition 16 (The Cursed) in No Man's Sky

There are two ways to begin Expedition 16 The Cursed in No Man's Sky.

1) New game

Start the new expedition (Image via Hello Games)

• Start a new save file for a new game.
• Select the bottom right title that says "Expedition 16: The Cursed".
• Once you load into the game, you will find yourself on a planet in a system found by Hello Games. We will discuss walkthroughs and rewards for this expedition in later guides so stay tuned.

2) Existing save

• Summon the Space Anomaly and make your way to the Expedition Terminus (it is on the ground floor behind the Nexus mission board).
• Upon interacting with the Expedition Terminus, the prompt will reveal the ongoing Expedition 16 - The Cursed.
• Hit Select Equipment to go to the next page where you will get to choose Technology and Cargo that will assist you in the expedition.
• You will be able to retrieve these in Expedition 16 by going to the Expedition Terminus in the Space Anomaly. Keep in mind that hyperdrive technology is disabled in the latest expedition and interstellar travel takes place through event-exclusive Ancient Portal Network.

The phase rewards earned from Expedition 16 will be available across all No Man's Sky saves.
