Patch 1.1 of Once Human has brought with it a new feature where you can tame animals. Animal Taming lets you capture and tend animals in your base. After unlocking this ability from the Memetics tree, you can capture them from the wilderness, keep them in a habitat in your base, and feed them. That said, taming animals gives you a break from the continuous looting, fighting, and raiding in the game.

For those interested in learning more, this article explains how you can tame animals in Once Human.

The Animal Capture unlock in the Memetics tree enables you to craft Tranquilizer Throwing Needles at an Intermediate or Advanced Supplies Workbench. To craft this needle, you will need:

After crafting a Tranquilizer Throwing Needle, add it to your hotbar in Once Human. Then, find an animal that you want to capture and bring its health points down to the green or white line shown on its health bar. Once its health is low enough, aim your Tranquilizer Needle at it and shoot.

To tame animals in the game, build a fenced-off enclosure in your territory, as shown in the image above. Also, ensure there are no gaps in the fence, or the animal will escape.

Then, build an Animal Trough, which you will unlock with the Animal Taming Memetic. The former will be under the Function Facility category in your build menu. To build an Animal Trough, you will need:

  • 50 Logs
  • 12 Sintered Bricks
  • 12 Aluminum Ingots
  • 15 Adhesives

Place the Animal Trough in the animal enclosure. You can then use it to feed your animals. Go to your animal and press 'F.' It will show details, including the animal's diet, favorite foods, and other fulfillment meters.

You need to feed your animal its favorite foods and keep it hydrated, or its happiness will decrease, reducing tameness along with it.

Your animal's happiness, energy, and hydration meters should be above 30% to increase its tameness. There are four levels of animal tameness in the game:

  • 0%-20%: Animals will not produce supplies and may even try to escape. Aggressive animals can even attack you.
  • 20%-50%: Animals will not produce supplies.
  • 50%-80%: Animals will start producing supplies, and combat-capable animals will heed your combat commands.
  • 80%-100%: Animals become proficient in producing supplies, or assisting in combat.

That's all it takes to tame animals in Once Human.
