A very controversial announcement by the Once Human developers was reversed - the upcoming in-app purchase beta. It essentially allowed players who signed up for and were accepted into the pre-launch beta could make in-game purchases, and there would be no wiping of data, giving them a decided advantage in the upcoming survival shooter title.
This was a particularly unpopular opinion in the Once Human community, and after fan backlash, the developers decided to walk back the upcoming beta. This will let everyone start at the same level when Once Human launches in July.
In-app purchase beta canceled by Once Human developers
On June 15, 2024, Once Human’s developers announced an IAP Beta Test (In-app purchase) for their upcoming survival MMO. In this test, in-app purchases would be available, and would not be wiped out. Whether it was for PvE or PvP servers, it would certainly give some players a distinct advantage over others.
A few days later, on June 18, 2024, the developers decided to call off this particular test. They cited a need to “ensure a fair playing field for all”. The developers heard the negative feedback about the test and decided it was better to simply cancel it. That way, when July 9, 2024, happens and the game launches, everyone starts on the same footing.
Had this been a test where everyone had access, and didn’t have to sign up, the negative feedback would have been lessened. In the above tweet, the developers shared exactly why this change happened.
The developers instead, chose to do the in-app test in-house, instead of within the community, according to a post in the Community Discord:
"Our aim with this test was to ensure that the in-game purchase system functions smoothly and to gather feedback from the community about their experience. We announced that this testing period would last right up until launch and that the players who participated in this test would have their progress retained. A lot of you have spoken up about this, and there is a pretty clear feeling that this will be unfair to players who do not participate in this test. We think you're right!"
The Discord message also stated that they wanted the game to be fair, fun, and challenging for everyone, and so they needed to cancel the test. That way, everyone will start on the same day, with the same start.
The developer insisted that the lack of the next beta test will not spoil anything and that they always welcome feedback from their community. Once Human will launch on different platforms like Windows, iOS, and Android on July 9, 2024.
