Once Human's character creation system comes with a weight class mechanic that is not easy to find unless you are detail-oriented. Weight classes confer specific bonus stats and penalties you cannot change after you create the character. Rather than just being a roleplay element, these bonuses can effectively be playstyle-defining for minmaxers.
In this guide, we will go over what each weight class brings to the table in Once Human, and what playstyles they encourage.
What do the weight classes do during Once Human character creation?
Weight classes in Once Human change with the Fitness slider on the character creation menu. It can be located under the Body tab, alongside height and leg length. Interestingly, the Fitness parameter does not account for the height-to-weight ratio, meaning your character's height has no effect.
Here's what each weight class does in Once Human:
Light: Less than 65 kg (less than 40 on Fitness slider)
Base inventory carryweight is set to 80kg for light Metas. Additionally, they gain:
- 15% higher attack speed with melee weapons
- 10% less damage with melee swings
- 25 additional max stamina
Moderate: 65 to 85kg (41 to 70 on the Fitness slider)
Moderate Metas in Once Human have a base carryweight of 90kg, and they gain arguably the strongest bonuses:
- 10% less damage received on Torso
- 20% more Stamina recovery speed
Heavy: more than 85kg (71 to 100 on the Fitness slider)
Creating a burly character in Once Human will give you the highest base carryweight of 100kg load. Apart from being a pack mule, your strength gives you better weapon handling. Here's what you get:
- 10% slower melee attacks
- 15% more damage with melee attacks
- 20% slower rolling
- 15 more Weapon Stability stat
In terms of melee, all these weight classes have similar performance in the broader sense. Melee constitutes only a minute part of Once Human, and you should instead look at the other stats like stamina, mobility, and defense - which is where Moderate is the most beneficial choice.

Character creation turning into actual in-game stats is not new to games, and Once Human is not the first to do it. The biggest inspiration for Starry Studios would have to be Dragon's Dogma and its sequel. Unlike Once Human, the height of the Arisen in these games also affects various intuitive stats like stamina consumption and sprint speed.
