Getting water should be one of your main objectives if you wish to survive in the twisted world of Once Human. According to the lore, the world of Once Human has been ravaged and turned into a post-apocalyptic mess due to a corruption named, stardust. Due to this, normal humans have been turned into grotesque monsters that still roam the world as reminders of the harrowing tragedy.

You role-play as one of the last surviving humans in this world and your objective is to survive. This depends on your capabilities for collecting resources as well as fighting off enemies.

Collecting basic amenities like water is essential for the survival aspect of the game. In this guide, we have shared all the information you will need to get drinking water in Once Human.

How to get drinking water in Once Human?

The most entry-level method for getting drinkable water in Once Human is to get a stove and collect some dirty water. When you locate a source of water or a water body, stand on it and select collect water. Collect a few bottles of water and go to your stove, here you can choose to boil the dirty water to make it drinkable.

To unlock a stove, you have to unlock the necessary schematics from the Mematic menu. Once done, you can use it to craft a stove for your base. Access the stove menu to see that it takes around three bottles of dirty water to make boiled water. Consuming drinkable water will replenish +20 points in Hydration.

How to collect rainwater in Once Human?

Another method to get drinkable water in the game is to collect dirty rainwater and boil it. Follow the steps below to learn how to get rainwater in Once Human:

1) Unlock the Memetic:

Open the Memetics menu
Navigate to the Logistics tab
Unlock the "Cooking 101" skill
Then unlock the "Water Gathering Skill"

2) Obtain materials for the Water Bucket:

50 Logs: Can be collected from trees
5 Adhesive: Explore or disassemble materials
15 Metal Scraps: Explore or disassemble materials

3) Craft the Water Bucket using the collected materials

4) Gather materials for the Rainwater Collection System:

30 Logs: Can be collected from trees
15 Shabby Fabric: Explore or disassemble materials
5 Rubber: Explore or disassemble materials

5) Craft the Rainwater Collection System using the collected materials

6) Place the Rainwater Collection System in your base

7) Wait for it to rain - the system will collect Dirty Water automatically

8) Connect the Rainwater Collection System to a Water Bucket using a pipe for increased storage

You can collect your dirty water straight from the system but if you connect it with a bucket you get increased storage.

How to set up a water pump in Once Human?

The last method for getting drinkable water in Once Human is to set up water pumps. This is the best method for continuously generating drinkable water in your base. Follow the steps to set up pump yourself in Once Human:

1) Get familiar with the pumps

Large Water Pump: Draws water from the ground, requires 10 watts of electricity
Small Water Pump: Directs the flow of water through pipes, requires 1 watts of electricity

2) For a Large Water Pump, gather these materials:

25 Steel Ingots: Smelt Iron Ore in a Furnace
20 Carbon Fiber Fabric: Explore or disassemble materials
20 Refined Parts: Explore or disassemble materials
20 Standard Parts: Explore or disassemble materials
20 Electronic Accessories: Explore or disassemble materials

3) For a Small Water Pump, gather these materials:

30 Steel Ingots: Smelt Iron Ore in a Furnace
10 Refined Parts: Explore or disassemble materials
2 Electronic Accessories: Explore or disassemble materials

4) Craft the Water Pumps using the collected materials

5) For the Large Water Pump:

Place it directly on the ground, not on a flooring
Ensure you have an energy source that can provide 10 watts of electricity
Connect the pump to the energy source
Optional: Large water pumps can also be used to collect crude oil if placed on an oil deposit.

6) For the Small Water Pump:

Place where you want to flow the water collected from the large pump
Ensure you have an energy source that can provide 1 watt of electricity
Connect the pump to the energy source

7) In summary

Place the Large Water Pump on the ground to draw water
Use the Small Water Pump to move water
Connect a pipe from the Small Water Pump to a Water Bucket for storage

Once the whole system is in place, activate the pumps to start collecting water in your base continuously.
