Once Human’s Shadow Hound boss is without a doubt one of the stronger foes you’ll encounter in the game. It's a challenging boss to solo and can certainly be done, but not recklessly. It can dish out incredible damage, whether using its super attack or melee strikes. If you’re under-leveled, you can still overcome it, but you must have a firm understanding of the Shadow Hound’s attacks and mechanics.

The Shadow Hound is a Level 40 boss who's certainly not one you should underestimate in Once Human. But once you know what to look out for, this enemy is easy enough to defeat.

Found in the Monolith of Thirst in Chalk Peak, the Shadow Hound, also known as Rabizex, awaits in Once Human. This dangerous, dark-colored hound has a variety of dangerous attacks, including one that can one-shot you if you don’t stop it from taking place. We don’t recommend fighting it until you’re at least Level 40, but with a strong-enough build/loadout, it’s certainly possible.

Its two primary attacks are a Melee Attack (Claw and Bite), and a Ranged Attack (Spits a shadow ball). However, it’s not limited to these, not by far. The Shadow Hound can employ several skills in Once Human:

  • Shadow Sneak: Delves into the ground and rushes out suddenly to sneak attack players.
  • Black Hole: Generates a Black Hole in its own mouth, and after a delay causes a huge explosion. Vacuums players in, so dodge and run away.
  • Shadow Torrent: Ejects dark matter from its mouth in the form of a powerful laser.
  • Dark Servant: Summons a dark matter servant (Duskorb) to shield it, and attack foes.
  • Oblivion: Can one-shot players. Jumps into the air and rotates quickly. Once finished, smashes the ground, exploding violently. Can be interrupted.

Most of these attacks are pretty easy to avoid. The spit attack can be dodged by rolling forward, and the laser can be evaded by dodging backward or jumping over it. If you get caught in the Black Hole, do your best to dodge roll and sprint away as rapidly as possible. However, the most frustrating things the Shadow Hound does in Once Human are Dark Servant and Oblivion.

The Dark Servants appear as Duskorbs that hover in the air. They’ll shield the boss and attack you. It’s worth taking the time to immediately defeat these unless Oblivion is charging. If the Shadow Hound leaps into the air and turns spherical in Once Human, stop what you’re doing and shoot as fast as you can. Deplete the white meter under its health bar before the attack finishes charging or you’re probably going to get killed in one shot.

Later in the fight, expect the Shadow Hound to suddenly start taking less damage. The game will warn you to shoot the shoulders of this boss to stop this from happening. You will likely also have to deal with the Duskorbs during this time. Defeat the two mouths on the boss’ shoulders to get things back to normal. This is likely when you’ll have to deal with Oblivion, so be ready.

This pattern of attacks will continue until the Shadow Hound dies in Once Human. You can then choose to use a controller on it to gain the most rewards or simply eliminate the boss to gain the minimal amount. A wide assortment of things can drop, such as Stardust Source, Weapon Mod Parts, Electronic Parts, and other crafting materials.

In addition, you can find rare, powerful things such as the Final Territory gear mod, Blaze Blessing gear mod, and even legendary weapons such as the Fabled Masamune Katana.
