After its latest update, 'Way of the Winter', Once Human now has a new temperature mechanic. This update adds a new PvE scenario introducing temperature as a major survival factor. You have to face temperatures that can range from freezing cold to blazing heat in the northern region of Nalcott Island. The harsh weather conditions provide a more challenging survival situation in a world that is filled with dangers.
In this article, we will shed more light on the new temperature mechanic in Once Human.
What is the temperature mechanic in Once Human?
The temperature in the game depends on various things like the weather, the location, and the time of the day. For example, if your location is near Camp Igloo in the Onyx Tundra region, the temperature will primarily be cold. Sunny or misty weather also affects the temperature, and at night, it gets even colder.
In contrast, going near a lava flow will turn the temperature hot. Hence, this new mechanic makes the environmental conditions around you vary depending on these factors.

Items that you have, either around you or with you, can also affect the temperature. When you are in a cold environment, holding a torch or a molotov cocktail will make the temperature warmer.
You also have the option to build a campfire or install a heater in your territory. These items, when active, can increase the surrounding temperature. This would come in handy on a cold night when you are in your territory. You can unlock these items from the memetic tree in Once Human.
Also, carrying items like Thermoium in your backpack helps keep your body temperature in check. You can craft them at a Supplies Workbench.

A Thermal Tower is another feature that helps you and your co-op teammates survive in harsh temperatures. This not only helps you to control the temperature but also provides perks to the territories around it. It can speed up your production facilities and also help increase crop yields.
However, you will have to defend the Tower against powerful enemies like the Colossal Chaosweavers, which will spawn in and attack the Thermal Towers.
