Precursor Tablets work as catalysts for maps in Path of Exile 2. This endgame currency can only be used in the Atlas and requires a few conditions before usage. However, getting one can be tricky, as each has a randomized drop rate, with not-so-punishing percentages within the high-tier maps.
This article covers the basics of a Precursor Tablet in PoE 2, its usage, different modifiers, and how to properly utilize it for endgame farming.
How to use a Precursor Tablet in Path of Exile 2
Before acquiring one, knowing how a Precursor Tablet is used in Path of Exile 2 is important. As mentioned earlier, a Precursor Tablet is a catalyst that influences maps according to its modifiers. It can be put onto a slot offered by a "Lost Tower" on the Atlas map, which alters a few mechanics of the nodes surrounding that Tower.
For example, assume you have a Precursor Tablet with the implicit modifier "10 maps in the range contain ritual Altars." There can also be additional modifiers, such as "increased gold" or "increased rare enemies." Your task now is to find a Lost Tower on the map, clear it, and then use the tablet by clicking on Tower.
Activating the Tower after putting in the Precursor Tablet will influence 10 surrounding map nodes with a guaranteed Ritual encounter, as stated on the tablet's implicit, followed by the additional modifiers. You will now see 10 maps with the "Ritual" icon on top of them.
The same rule applies for all league mechanics and general map enemies.
Here is a list of all implicit modifiers that currently roll on Precursor Tablets:
- 5 to 10 maps in the range contain Breaches
- 5 to 10 maps in the range contain Ritual Altars
- 5 to 10 maps in the range contain Mirrors of Delirium
- 5 to 10 maps in the range contain Expedition encounters
- 5 to 10 maps in the range Irradiated
The term "Irradiated" falls under the general section of a map, referring to a modifier that increases a map's monster level by 1.

How to find a Precursor Tablet in Path of Exile 2
Precursor Tablets can be farmed from maps with any Waystone tier. Each league-specific tablet has a higher chance of dropping from that league mechanic.
Hence, a Precursor Tablet for the "contain Breaches" implicit has a higher chance of dropping from Breach encounters in PoE. The same applies to Ritual, Delirium, and other mechanics.
Normal map nodes also have a chance to drop a random Precursor Tablet. However, that chance is quite low.
