As part of Path of Exile 2’s The City of Seven Waters quest, you’ll face Azarian, the Forsaken Son. One of the main bosses of Act 2, this challenging foe awaits you in the Buried Shrines. While it’s on par with the difficulty level of other bosses in this act, if you make a mistake, you can permanently fill a section of the room with fire — at least until you die and make a fresh attempt, that is.
Similar to Rudja the Dread Engineer and others that come after it, it couldn’t hurt to have some Fire Resistance, thanks to all the dangerous fire AOEs that the boss can use. Azarian's attacks are all fire-based, so being able to protect yourself from the bulk of these attacks is advisable.
How to beat Azarian the Forsaken Son in Path of Exile 2
Upon arriving in the boss room for Path of Exile 2’s Azarian the Forsaken Son, you’ll likely notice the four fiery braziers, with one in each corner. If you or Azarian should break these, they will immediately, permanently set that section of the floor on fire. Any attacks can damage these, so you have to be careful where you position the boss.
In addition, having a Fire Charm and Fire Resistance is going to be important, considering all the potential fire you can be hit with during this Path of Exile 2 boss fight. Azarian the Forsaken Son can do a spinning fire attack that goes in a line, lighting the ground behind him on fire. This is incredibly dangerous.
He can also launch fire projectiles which come at you pretty fast. During my playthrough, at about 75%, the boss launched a projectile at one brazier. This broke it, lighting that whole quarter of the battleground on fire.
Azarian the Forsaken Son can use strong melee attacks and also has access to a fire cone that launches directly in front of him, making close-range combat dangerous. Closer to 50%, he broke another brazier, but do be mindful of positioning, as he can break these at any time.
Thankfully, you still have a bit of ground to stand on in the center, even when all four braziers break down, closer to 25% of the boss’s HP. This means you have almost no room with which to evade his attacks. Here, having Fire Resistance and quick reflexes will serve you well.
However, there is one thing Redditor FlyingPinkMonkey suggested. You can keep the boss really close to you against the wall, to make him just use melee attacks. He’ll still use the spinning attack, but if you lure him to the wall and roll from one side to another, you can prevent him from breaking many of the braziers.
This is certainly a strategy worth attempting. That said, it’s worth pointing out that, in our experience, the attack that broke the braziers was a long fire line that just happened to hit the braziers. If you can position Azarian smartly enough, you may be able to avoid that fate, but we cannot guarantee it.
