Breach is one of the most popular league mechanics implemented in the core system of Path of Exile 2. It requires players to have a strong build to clear huge mob groups, collect enough loot for gear enhancements, and face a pinnacle boss fight. Breaches can be found in random maps throughout the Atlas, which can be enhanced through various means.
This article lists the basics of Breach League mechanics, every currency, their usage, best Atlast strategies, and how to unlock the Xesht pinnacle boss fight.
Complete Breach guide in Path of Exile 2
How to start:
To encounter Breaches in your maps, open the Atlas via the Waystation, and look for a pink icon with a "hand" logo. This guarantees a Breach encounter where you can interact with the League mechanic, and defeat hoards of enemies.
Once you spawn inside a map with a Breach encounter, look for a purple hand sticking out from the ground.
Interact with the hand, and you will notice the ground opening up a new dimension, calling in additional monsters. This means you are on the clock, so get your character moving, and defeat as many enemies as possible while at the edge.
Once the Breach closes, you are done with that particular encounter, and free to pick up any currency on the ground.
The most notable currencies to pick up that are exclusive to Breach include Breach Splinters and Catalysts. Note that there will be Breach hands spawning during the fight, so interact with them for extra currency drops.
Breach currencies and how to use them:
Two Breach currencies you should pick up are Breach Splinters and Catalysts. Let us go over each of them:
Breach Splinters
Breach Splinters can be found by defeating any enemy within the Breach fight, or interacting with the small hands. These splinters can be collected in bulk, and having 300 of them converts all Splinters into a Breachstone. One Breachstone can open a portal to the Breach Pinnacle boss, Xesht. Look for the Realmgate near the starting point on your map, and use the Breachstone to enter the Xesht boss fight.
You can either farm Breach Splinters by running Breaches on maps, or buy a Breachstone from the "Currency Exchange" shop at Alva.
Catalysts:
Catalysts work like affix-modifying currencies, where you can upgrade or reset a specific modifier on a ring or an amulet. For example, if you have a Carapace Catalyst that states "Enhances Defence modifiers on a ring or an amulet," it means that you can slam that Catalyst on any ring or amulet, and have its quality reach 20% with a Defence modifier being randomly upgraded.
You can even go past the usual Quality cap of 20%, and apply these Catalysts on a special item called "Breach Ring" to reach 50% quality.
Atlas strategy:
You can follow the strategy in the following image to get multiple Breach encounters in a single map, and additional Breach Splinter drops from enemies.
Note that Atlas Breach points can be farmed by defeating Xesht. So, you must defeat the boss at least once to get started. Next, continue to farm the Splinters, make a Breachstone, and beat him again for more points on the tree.
If you have a slow build and want the Breach to spread out relatively slower than usual, you can start by getting the "Sustained Siege" node on the right.
To get additional Breach encounters on your Atlas map, look for Precursor Tablets with "Maps in range have Breaches." Slot this in any of the Towers, and you will have the surrounding maps with a guaranteed Breach encounter.
