Catalysts are an endgame crafting object that drops from Breaches in Path of Exile 2. Specifically, rare mobs spawned by an ongoing Breach have the highest chance of dropping a Catalyst on death. These can also be obtained by the boatloads via the currency exchange if you want to use them en masse.
But, why would you want to use them? Well, Catalysts are one of the best ways to top off your build with extra stats on top of rings and amulets that have high affix values in Path of Exile 2.
How do Catalysts work in Path of Exile 2?
There are 12 different types of Catalysts in Path of Exile 2, and each of them can increase a specific type of affix on rings and amulets. For example, Carapace Catalysts can increase the value of Armor, Evasion, and Energy Shield affixes on your ring or amulet (both implicit and explicit modifiers).
Like Quality enhancement of regular gear, this will increase the quality of your Ring or Amulet by up to 20%, increasing those affix values by that percentage. Breach Rings are the most exceptional item type for this purpose, as these allow the quality of this type to go up to 50%, making it the best ring type to min-max Catalyst enhancement.
The most important thing to note here is that bonuses from Catalysts of different types do not stack on the same item. If you use a different type of Catalyst on the same item, it will wipe all quality improvement from the previous Catalyst type, and overwrite it with its new improvement.
