Crisis Fragments are the primary currencies used to access the Path of Exile 2 pinnacle boss, Arbiter of Ash. Once players access The Burning Monolith on the Atlas map, they will encounter a large gate within, asking for three Crisis Fragments to open. However, these Fragments are part of the late endgame, requiring players to have access to Citadels, and Tier 15 Waystones.
This article lists the basics of Crisis Fragments, how to obtain one, and other things you can do if you get one.
Crisis Fragments and how to get them in Path of Exile 2
To obtain a Crisis Fragment for the Arbiter boss fight, your first task should be to find a Citadel on your map. Unfortunately, there is no definitive way to get hold of a Citadel, as they spawn randomly on the map. Your only option is to clear away map nodes and towers, and eventually move far away from the starting point.
Three Citadels are hidden in the map. These can be treated as unique maps that only accept Tier 15 Waystones. The bosses in each of these Citadels are the final bosses from each Act. Once you defeat these bosses, you can get the Fragments required to unlock The Burning Monolith.
Note that there have been some theories going around the community on how to guarantee a Citadel spawn in the Atlas map. Based on our experience, no special process seemed to work, and the Citadels still very much have a random spawn rate.
How to use the Crisis Fragments in Path of Exile 2
Crisis Fragments can be used in two ways after you obtain one. You can either collect all three Fragments from three Citadels to access the Arbiter boss fight via The Burning Monolith or sell each in exchange for Exalted and Divine Orbs. At the time of writing this article (December 2024), the "Faded Crisis Fragment" from Copper Citadel is going for 270 Exalted Orbs in the market.
Hence, it falls upon you whether you want to go for the Arbiter boss fight to test your character, or sell these Fragments to further invest in another build for the future.
Atlas strategy to get more Crisis Fragments in Path of Exile 2
Defeating Citadel bosses will grant you two Atlas tree points per boss kill, which can be invested in a special tree for bosses. Here, you can increase the drop quantity of the Crisis Fragments from one boss. The Spoils of War is a great node for having a 15% increased quantity of items from bosses, alongside other normal passive nodes from the standard tree.
The three "Waystone Modifier Effect" nodes on the far left, alongside the "Grueling Journey" on the right, will help you get additional modifiers on your Waystone, which will enhance the drop rate from Citadel bosses.
However, first get a Citadel on your map to implement all these.
