Does Path of Exile 2 have an offline mode?

One thing many Path of Exile 2 players want is an offline mode — this means they could run a character through the many challenges of the game, without having to be connected to the internet. If you’re on a flight or a car trip or simply want to be away from the many other Exiles that call the game home, you may find yourself desiring this feature. There have been other online games in the past that have done this, though.

Similar games that offer an offline mode include Last Epoch and Wayfinder. However, Path of Exile 2 does not and will not offer an offline mode. This is something that has been answered by one of the developers in the past. Here’s what we know about it.

No, Path of Exile 2 doesn’t have an offline mode - and likely never will

According to Path of Exile 2 developer Jonathan Rogers, the game will never have an offline mode. This was answered during a recent PoE 2 preview event, where Jonathan Rogers, according to Outerhaven, pointed out that there’s a really solid reason why the game will never go offline:

Sure, you can take PoE 2 on the go - provided you have internet access (Image via Grinding Gear Games)

“There will be no offline mode as this is an online mode game, and as such everything has been designed around that, especially our currency system.”

While games like Last Epoch, Wayfinder, and Diablo 2 can be played offline, Path of Exile 2 has been designed differently, with internet connectivity in mind. So, many of the formulas and systems are calculated online.

For example, damage calculations are done server-side, among other things. Far too much of the game is server-authorized, and so it’s just not likely that we’ll ever see a PoE 2 Offline mode. While it would be a nice idea so that players could do things like create Randomizer Seeds for the game, it’s just not likely.

However, the game will be playable on devices like the Steam Deck and the AyaNeo (I can confirm that the game does play well on the AyaNeo, as I brought it home with me for the holidays during our preview period). However, no offline connectivity is allowed.
