Path of Exile 2: What does the Reforging Bench do?

The Reforging Bench is more useful than it initially appears. Due to the RNG-based nature of item crafting in Path of Exile 2, you often end up with a lot of junk items that are not worth investing further into. With the Reforging Bench, you can turn those into a useful byproduct for further crafting by enrolling three items into one brand-new item.

In practice, though, there are many other uses for the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2 than just rerolling scrap equipment. In this guide, we'll explain all of that.

How to unlock the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2

To unlock the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2, all you must do is finish the Treasures of Utzaal sidequest. This involves some exploration in the Drowned City during the Act 3 campaign to get to the Molten Vault. To clear the quest and retrieve the tools, you must beat Metkul the Forgemaster boss.

Afterward, the Reforging Bench will be unlocked and remain accessible throughout the Cruel Acts into the Endgame.

Path of Exile 2 Reforging Bench Uses: What is it good for?

The most obvious use for the Reforging Bench is to reroll three items of the same rarity and base type into a new item of the same type and rarity, with freshly randomized affixes.

This, of course, does not work for white items — it does for Magic, Rare, and Unique items. For Unique items, three of the same Uniques can be used in the Reforging Bench to get the same Unique with randomized affix values and level (if it is leveled), essentially saving you a Divine Orb in the process. Note that Corrupted Items cannot be used in the Reforging Bench.

The other major use for it is to get higher-tier Waystones. If you do not juice your maps properly, it's possible to run into a high-tier Waystone scarcity. With Reforging Bench, three Waystones of the same tier and any rarity can be rerolled into a higher-tier Waystone. Doryani will sell you an endless supply of tier-1 Waystones, so in this method, it's theoretically possible to print out Waystones of any tier — although this would be far from the most efficient way.

Other than that, the Reforging Bench in Path of Exile 2 has the following uses:

• 3x Precursor Tablets of Magic Rarity = A new Precursor Tablet
• 3x Catalysts of the same type = A new random Catalyst
• 3x Essences of the same type = A new random Essence, with a slight chance for a Greater Essence
• 3x Soul Core of the same type = A new Soul Core
• 3x Distilled Emotions = A new Distilled Emotions of the same type
• 3x Runes = A new random Rune
