Waystone is an essential currency that must be obtained to sustain map tiers in Path of Exile 2. Players can find these Waystones by running different maps, accessible via the map device. However, Doryani will hand out some low-tier Waystones in exchange for Gold to help start the journey.
The "sustaining" of maps comes from these low-tier Waystones. This is an important endgame process for getting high-tier Waystones while progressing through the maps. These are not sold by Doryani, and can only be obtained via drops, or trading with real people. Hence, if you run out of free maps, your only option will be to spend precious currencies.
This article lists everything you can do to get an increased amount of Waystones from any map you run in Path of Exile 2.
Every single way to get Waystone in Path of Exile 2
Here are all the ways to get a Waystone, both low and high tier, from within the game:
- Low-tier Waystones: Doryani's shop or all maps
- High-tier Waystones: High-tier maps or trading
The low-tier Waystone that you purchase from Doryani will be your source for getting more Waystones of the same or higher tier via drops.
Each Waystone has an implicit modifier that shows the "Waystone drop rate" for the map you are about to run. However, the amount can be increased by upgrading the Waystone rarity, starting from normal to two magic modifiers, and ending with either rare or rare corrupted.
For example, if you have a magic Waystone with "100% Waystone Drop Chance," it is recommended to apply a Regal Orb to increase the percentage by a lot. You can also apply an Alchemy Orb on a normal Waystone to obtain a rare Waystone.
Additionally, your Atlas tree plays a huge part in sustaining maps and increasing the drop quantity of Waystones.
Best Atlas strategy to sustain maps and Waystone drops in Path of Exile 2
Getting Waystones from Tier 5 maps and above can become difficult, as the drop rate gets lower with each step. However, this is where the Atlas tree comes in, allowing you to invest in special buffs to further increase drop rates, quantity, and more.
You can follow the tree nodes given below for the optimal drop rate of Waystones in your map runs.
To infinitely sustain Tier 15 maps, there is an additional tree that can increase the drop rate from map bosses. However, the points for these nodes drop from Citadel maps, which look like Pyramid. After getting four points from two Citedels, you can invest in the boss tree.
Go for "Spoils for War" on the right, followed by "Radiant Waystones" on top.
Once you have the buff, you can look for the nodes that have a boss icon on top of them.
Defeating a Tier 14 or higher boss of these maps will grant you a guaranteed drop of one or more Tier 15 Waystones.
Difference between maps and Waystones in Path of Exile 2
Maps and Waystones are two different features of the same system. A map is a node that can be found on a map device, showing the terrain you are about to run. A Waystone is the modifier that must be used to unlock that map. The latter also determines the difficulty/drop chance which will be on the map.
